“It goes really really high.

There's a window up there and if you look out you can see the whole room. I always go up first because that's my spot. Well, me and [bff, probably] both say it's our spot.

I don't know what it is. Like, it could be a castle. Or something else. It changes.

I just like it here. I think about it before school sometimes.”

The best classroom transformations we've been part of don't always start with a big budget. Sometimes they start with a teacher who simply refuses to give up on an idea.

Kerri Favreau at St. Louis Catholic School in Keewatin, Ontario had a clear vision for her students: a calming, movement-friendly space that supported the way children actually learn. The problem? She was restricted to a pre-approved vendor list that didn't include us, and her budget was tight.

So she got creative. With some determined problem-solving and a lot of collaboration with our team, Kerri found a way through the red tape.

In her words: "We knew this would benefit children and their learning, so with some creative thinking and problem solving we were able to make it happen. Believe in possibilities…"

We're proud to have been part of that story. The full news feature from ShawTV, plus photos of the beautiful space Kerri and her students now share, is on our website.

A child doesn't look at the Imagine™ Play Cube and see furniture. They see a cave, a hideout, a reading spot, a stage. Whatever the moment calls for.

That openness is intentional. When a learning environment offers fewer, better pieces, children spend more time inventing and less time being told what to do with a toy. The Imagine™ Play Cube was designed around children who think that way, and built to hold up while they do, year after year in active classrooms.

If you're thinking about what open-ended play looks like in your space, we'd love to show you more.

There's a concept we return to often: calm as a design choice.

It’s easy to think of calm as an aesthetics when it’s actually one of function. An environment that actively supports students in staying present and engaged, rather than one that competes for their attention.

Our new printable quick tips guide focuses on small, accessible rearrangements that make a real difference. The "eye-level rule." Reducing competing textures. Rethinking what goes where, and why.

Some classroom changes take months to see, but these can be implemented on a Tuesday afternoon and the impact felt by Wednesday morning.

Download the free guide and share it with someone on your team who'd appreciate it.

What does it actually take to move from a culture of teaching to a culture of learning?

According to Rosa Fazio, former principal of Norma Rose Point School in Vancouver, it takes two shifts happening at the same time.

The first is philosophical. Educators move from delivering content to guiding inquiry. Leaders stop administering policy and start coaching learning. Success stops being measured by a grade and starts being measured by a student's ongoing desire to know.

The second is physical. Even the most inquiry-minded educator struggles when the space around them is rigid, fixed, and built for compliance. Flexible furniture, natural materials, calm environments are what make the philosophical shift possible in practice.

Both shifts have to move together. That's the part that gets missed.

Kelly Rosensweet, Natural Pod's Learning and Development expert, wrote about Fazio's framework and what it means for designing learning environments.

At Creekside Creative Academy, no two learners move through the day the same way.

This learning space is rooted in Reggio-Emilia principles and a deep connection to the natural world, with children spending significant time outside and educators committed to following the child's lead.

Inside, Natural Pod's open-ended, sustainable furniture carries that same philosophy: adaptable spaces that respond to how a child actually learns, not how we wish they would sit still.

Creekside is also a standout example of how intentional design can bring the outside in, so the feeling of nature doesn't stop at the door.

As educators know, learning does not stop at the end of a school day. In fact, afterschool hours are some of the most important in a child's day. The environments that hold that time should reflect that.

A space that's been thought through gives children permission to exhale after a long school day, spaces, as Education Designer Tyler Summers says, “where play can breathe.”

Our new School-Age Afterschool Furnishings and Design Guide is a resource for building those environments. Browse real spatial concepts, learn how we work with programs like yours, and find out what intentional afterschool design can look like in practice.

Nobody gets into education to fill landfills.

But fast furniture makes it almost inevitable. It's cheap upfront, broken within years, and replaced on repeat.

We refuse to accept that as the norm.

That's why we wrote Change the Cycle: A Manifesto for Learning Environments — and why we're backing it with real financial support for learning environments ready to choose better, now through June.

When a learning environment doesn't have room for a full loft, it might still have room for wonder.

The Wonder™ Half Loft with Stairs was built for that situation. It's half the floor footprint of our Christene Loft, but with everything that makes the Wonder™ collection worth knowing about. A sheltered nook underneath for children who want to tuck away and imagine. An elevated platform above for those who want the view.

The Wonder™ Play Lofts were named after real educators. People whose curiosity and care for children shaped what each piece became. The intention was never just furniture. It was an open invitation: a fort one day, an enchanted forest the next, a castle the day after that.

They're also made from FSC®-certified wood, with no added formaldehyde and responsibly selected adhesives. Educators tell us it's one of the most striking things in their room, and that it changes beautifully with the seasons.

If you're working with a space that has height but limited floor area, this one is worth a look.
