Factorise completely; 6a² -ab-b²
Just wondering where this question is coming from... Kgari Sechele students brought it up yesterday, Kagiso SSS students sent it to me last night, Gabz students sent it too yesterday, an Exam revision or sth? 🤔😂
When u factorise by Grouping, you work out as follows...👇
The number (Coefficient) accompaning a² is +6, right? The Coefficient of b² is -1, right?
You multiply +6 and -1 (the Coefficients of Squared Variables), you get the Product of -6
The Coefficient of the middle term, ab is -1, right?
Then, u are going to find 2 numbers (factors) which gives u the Product of -6, and the same two factors must Add up to give the Sum of the middle Coefficient (of ab), which is -1
Its easier to do that if You first list all the factors of of the Product -6.. Which are (1,2,3,6,-1,-2,-3,-6)
You realize that the two factors would be -3 and 2... (you multiply them you get -6, u add them you get -1)🙏
From there, you use ur -3 and 2 to complete ur factorization by grouping... this way
= 6a² - 3ab + 2ab - b²
= 3a (2a - b) +b (2a - b)
= (3a + b)(2a - b)
We are covering Factorization this coming Saturday, By grouping & Difference of Squares
