Following the passing of former President Festus G. Mogae, ACHAP Board Chairperson Mr Tshekiso and ACHAP CEO Dr Seipone visited Mma Nametso to convey their heartfelt condolences, pay their respects, and present a wreath in honour of His Excellency’s remarkable legacy and service to the nation.

It was Dr. Mogae’s relentless public advocacy, bold political will and servant leadership that directly inspired and led to the historic establishment of ACHAP as a pioneering Public Private Partnership established in 2000 between the Government of Botswana, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Merck & Co. Inc.

Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the life of His Excellency Festus Gontebanye Mogae, a distinguished Statesman, visionary leader, and a man whose legacy will forever remain etched in the history of Botswana, the continent and the World at large.

Beyond his role in government and the World Bank Mr. Mogae played a significant role in pioneering the fight against HIV/AIDS in Botswana through his leadership as former Board Member of the African Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnerships (ACHAP). His stewardship and advocacy helped shape interventions that brought hope, dignity, and lifesaving support to countless Batswana.

ACHAP continued to champion innovative health programs, partnerships, and community-centered approaches that contributed immensely to Botswana’s global recognition as a leader in the HIV/AIDS response. His passion for health equity and social development reflected his deep compassion for people and his belief that leadership must serve humanity.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well lived — a life devoted to service, excellence, and the upliftment of others. His selfless and courageous contributions to the global health community will continue to inspire future generations.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to shine as a beacon of leadership, compassion, and hope.
