🎥 LIGHT IS STORYTELLING
As a Chief Lighting Electrician, I’ve learned that building a gear list isn’t just about watts and stands — it’s about seeing the director’s vision.

I don’t just read the script. I imagine the scene — feel its rhythm, its mood, its temperature. Because great lighting doesn’t draw attention to itself — it dissolves into the story.

In fact, for an experienced gaffer, it might be easier to write a lighting gear list by watching the final cut of the film than by reading the script. Why? Because light lives in the image — not in the printed text. It must be created around the script — literally visioned into each frame.

🎬 Throwback to “Serpent” (2017)

Shot in South Africa—every day started with a 6km walk to set and ended with a 6km walk back out. No shortcuts. No excuses.

We had a few stunning location days in Cape Town, then moved into studio for two weeks…
With a wild snake wrangler and six live black mambas.

No CGI. Just tension, sweat, and real danger.
One of the most intense shoots I’ve been part of—and I’d do it again.
