Otter Racing

What a week! we had a range of conditions with everything from lots of breeze to no wind at all and all in boats unlike anything else we have ever sailed before, we finished the round robin in 8th but we were happy with how close the races were becoming after a whole year out of match racing.

The 5-8th races were sailed in tricky shifty weather but luckily we managed to pull it together for the last race and finish in 7th overall!

We had the best week as a crew getting to grips with it all again and loved every minute

None of this would be possible without the amazing support from .keelboat.sailing Apsen and our wonderful hosts

Women’s Match Racing National Champions 2023 🏆

GKSS Nordea Women’s Trophy 🇸🇪

After an overnight drive from Denmark to Sweden, we were all a bit knackered but super excited to have arrived in Marstrand!

On Friday afternoon we got out on the water after watching some of the Open racing, epic sailing area being able to race right up to the rocks! We had two races this afternoon, with a couple of kite issues, meant a lot on in the breezier conditions.

An early start Saturday morning, we had a cracking race with Megan Thompson and her team, very close racing finishing with us taking the win after an intense downwind! We had a break where we watched the Open Semis and Finals, trying to pick up some tips as we watched from the rocks. Before heading back out for some more close racing with the other teams!

We had the most fantastic racing in Marstrand, such a cool atmosphere with so many spectators and such a well organised event! Congratulations to on their 5th win! We hope to be back next year 🤞🏻

Women’s Match Racing World Championship Round Up

Day 2
We had an early start with the first race starting at 08:00. We completed six races and took two wins which meant we had a bit on the next day to make quarters, needing another two wins

Day 3
Our final two RR races, where we won both of those finishing the RR in 7th. This meant we faced Lea (2nd placed) in the Quarter Finals, two close races but she took the win and advanced to semis. We raced Megan Thompson and her team to decide 6th/7th, before racing Julia Artsen who took the win to leave us finishing the regatta in 8th place!

A great result for a team that haven’t all sailed together before, thanks to everyone involved in running and organising the event! An even bigger thanks to Ida, Mads and family for welcoming us into their home for the week and being so generous!

Day 1 at the Women’s Match Racing World Championships ✅

Super windy all day today, we only sailed two races, one win and one loss but very close matches! After that, racing was postponed while we hoped the wind would drop off! Unfortunately it didn’t, so an early start tomorrow and a big day on the water 💪🏻

Women’s Match Racing World Championships - Middelfart, Denmark

Today was registration and practice. We had breeze on, which sent some teams swimming!

This evening we had the opening ceremony at the Hindsgavl Castle which was a nice chance to catch up with all the teams

We are looking forward to racing tomorrow with a breezy forecast💨

Day 3 at the EUROSAF Women’s Match Racing Europeans ✅

Yesterday was the final day of racing, there was wind to start the day but it was swinging 360 degrees so we were AP’d ashore, the wind then died completely so more time under AP!

Eventually some wind arrived and we got out on the water, a tricky final race in the shifty Ledro conditions, meant we finished in 6th place.

Looking forward to heading to Denmark tomorrow ready for the Worlds starting this week!

Day 2 at the EUROSAF Women’s Match Racing Europeans ✅

Today we finished the second round robin, taking another win in the final race. Next up was the third round robin, where we won another two.

We were tied for fourth place and unfortunately the way the tie breaks, left us in 5th place with a 5th/6th play off race tomorrow

Can’t wait for our final day on the water here in Ledro tomorrow

Building breeze throughout the day, meant we completed a whole round robin and started the second one.

Tricky conditions paired with a new team meant a game of snakes and ladders, especially when the downwind became an upwind 😂

Today was the practice day, where we were met with light winds, heavy winds, 180 degree wind shifts, thunder, lightning and torrential rain 🌧️

Despite the weather we got a good session in and are looking forward to racing tomorrow!
