Biobest
Biobest is the world's leading company in biological control of pests and diseases and natural pollination
Biobest, we invented the buzziness
As a pioneer in the production of bumblebees since 1987, Biobest has become one of the world’s leading companies in natural pollination and biological control of pests and diseases. Known since many years for its bumblebees and wide range of beneficial insects, mites and nematodes, the company now offers a complete range of natural solutions including biopesticides, monitoring and scouting tools, pheromones …. With 14 group companies in 5 continents, distributors in more than 60 countries and over 650 employees worldwide, we stand prepared to provide growers with tailor-made advice. We focus on vegetables, ornamentals, soft-fruits and orchards. With the power of our natural solutions, a successful crop goes hand in hand with a healthy product and a clean environment.
Not all heroes are big. Some are really, really small. 🐞
This World Animal Day, we’re putting the spotlight on some of the smallest members of the animal kingdom: the beneficial insects and mites working hard in crops around the world.
They hunt pests, parasitize them, pollinate flowers and help growers protect their crops naturally.
Tiny? Absolutely.
Important? More than you might think.
Here’s to the beneficials. Our small heroes with a big impact. 🌱

🐝 A greenhouse full of heroes!
At aubergine grower T**A, some of the smallest workers make a big difference. Bumblebees help pollinate the flowers, while beneficial insects help keep pests under control naturally.
During VLAM’s “Helden van onze velden” press visit, Belgian media got a look behind the scenes at how this works in practice.
As our Biobest advisor Bart Elseviers put it: “It’s a bit like playing Stratego with insects.” It’s all about keeping the right balance in the greenhouse.
Great to see biological control and pollination in the spotlight!
A big thank you to T**A, VLAM and Bart for sharing the story.

Small actions can make a big difference. 🌍💚
For World Cleanup Day, colleagues from our Belgian office stepped outside, rolled up their sleeves and took part in a local clean-up walk around our neighbourhood.
As a company focused on sustainable crop management, we believe sustainability also starts close to home. By working together to collect litter and care for our surroundings, we can all contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.
A big thank you to everyone who joined in and helped make a difference. 🙌 And a special thank you to velden clubhuis for the delicious pizzas! 🍕

100 Entomatic™ units sold. A milestone worth celebrating. 🎉
The 100th Entomatic™ has officially been delivered to Fresa, a Belgian strawberry 🍓 grower. A great moment to celebrate 🍰 together with their team.
Developed together with Hortiworld - Horticulture systems & machinery, Entomatic™ helps growers apply beneficial insects 🐞 and mites quickly, evenly and gently across the crop, while reducing the labour involved in manual application.
For Fresa, that makes introducing beneficials a lot easier. And for us, reaching 💯 units is a strong sign of how automation is becoming an increasingly important part of modern IPM.

Scouting just got a GPS upgrade.📍
We’ve added GPS-powered scouting to Crop-Scanner™ to make scouting easier, more consistent and more insightful.
With Geo Scout, location data is captured as you scout. While Satellite map and Scout Activity add even more insight into scouting coverage, crop locations and scouting optimalisation.
Less manual input. Better visibility. More consistent scouting.
Discover what’s new in Crop-Scanner™ and how GPS can help make your scouting more efficient. 👇

🌱 Great discussions and new insights at IOBC-WPRS 2026!
With more than 100 participants from around the world, the IOBC-WPRS Greenhouse WGM brings researchers and industry experts together to share the latest developments in biological control and IPM.
There is a lot of exciting progress being made, but also plenty of challenges still to tackle. That makes exchanging research, field experience and ideas more valuable than ever.
Today, we’re taking the discussions into the field during the field tour, sharing some of our own research and exchanging experiences directly with fellow experts.
A big thank you to the IOBC-WPRS, International Organisation for Biological and Integrated Control for the excellent organisation and a packed programme.
And we’re not done yet. Two more days of insights, discussions and knowledge sharing to go! 🌱

Can natural enemies make a real difference in thrips control in onions? 🌱
Biobest has been developing an alternative approach to to***co thrips control in onions.
The focus? Supporting naturally occurring predatory thrips.
The approach combines:
🌼 Specifically designed field margins
🥄 Nutrimite™ as additional food for beneficials
🔍 Regular scouting for pest and predatory thrips
🐞 Building and maintaining populations of natural enemies
Since 2022, the approach has been tested with growers in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The results so far:
• Significantly higher numbers of natural enemies
• Equal or better to***co thrips control
• Comparable or increased yields
At Onion Day in the Netherlands, organised by Onion Innovation and Research Center, we shared the results and practical lessons from five years of field experience, showing how this approach can support more resilient thrips management in onions.

🌱 See you in Boskoop!
Biobest is proud to sponsor the IOBC Greenhouse WGM 2026, taking place from 31 August to 3 September.
Researchers and industry experts will come together to share the latest insights into biological control and IPM. Three Biobest colleagues will also take the stage:
• Juliette Pijnakker – predatory thrips in greenhouse ornamental crops
• Rob Moerkens – managing Nesidiocoris tenuis in greenhouse tomato
• Felix Wäckers – recent advances in biological control for greenhouse crops
We’re looking forward to new ideas, good discussions and catching up with people from across the industry.
Will you be there? Come and say hello to the Biobest team!

🍈 Melon flowers don’t wait.
Each flower opens only once, early in the day and for a short time. If it isn’t pollinated then, the opportunity is gone.
That’s where bumblebees can help. They start foraging early, keep flying in cooler or unsettled weather and carry plenty of pollen from flower to flower.
In a 2025 Biobest trial, using bumblebees resulted in a higher share of heavier, sweeter Class 1 melons and a 40% increase in revenue.*
