MOMOTA DAS-Bangladeshi artisan.
Momota is doing this traditional art practice since she was 7-8 years, growing up in a village named as kaligunj, jessore, Bangladesh she was thrilled to see the needle and thread in almost every household and what inspired her more was her grandmother's journey to this Kantha world. Whenever she got time or gets time till now, she does sewing and it is her only passion.
When asked about the long lost tradition, what's her thought - she replied "nowadays you cannot see such craze in young people about sewing or the interest in kantha but I would love to create a team with young women of our locality to keep the tradition going and would love to see so many new souls joining the tradition, in this way they will be able to earn a bit and be independent."
The traditional folk art of Bengal is famous as Kantha which means 'Patched Cloth', and the special significance of kantha is quilting. Kantha stands as a model for skilled certainty. Because this fantastic embroidered piece is revived by utilising the worn-out textiles, literally rags that would have been normally thrown away.
It is a treasured art of every door where in, the Bengali ladies irrespective of their castes, classes and socio-economic groups, are expertise. The embroidery not only depicts the stitches employed but it also expresses the outflow of their creative, resourceful, imaginary, patient craftsmanship.

These are some parts of my friend Bijan's art installation and B**g Rang's documentary project.
The involvement of forest and life is so fascinating here. The Art installation is being done depending on the children and changes of living in the southern part of Bangladesh due to the recent climate changes. The artist wants to know the dreams and desires of the children here with some color and paper. And with their drawings of dreams, the art installation is featuring their future and the plight of this region.
It will take several more months for the work to be fully documented. I spent some great time with these jungle-dwellers and before my good friends Anupom and Shobhya's teaching life began, we shared a lot more memories here, thinking of a few days of liberation from work and urban life.
The people and their love and hospitality are truly amazing. The smell of water, forest and muddy soil brought peace in mind and with it, comes enthusiasm of new work. I can't reveal many things like the name of the project or many more details until it's fully fledged.
