UWC Mostar

🌿 "Together for the School” project took place this week when UWC students joined forces with students from elementary school and, in just a few days, managed to complete one phase of the renovation of their botanical garden.

A lot was accomplished throughout the week:

🧱 The garden wall was refurbished;
🪑 A bench was built for resting and socializing;
🧱 Edging was installed around the flower beds;
🌺 Flowers and fragrant citrus plants were planted.

The entire process was filled with a wonderful atmosphere, joy, and camaraderie. The students were guided and supported by the project supervisors: teachers Alexandra Tulji and Ljubica Bajo Behmen, and teacher Bea Balta-Manjgo.

Great things can be achieved through teamwork, dedication, and friendship, and that together we can make a real difference!

Voices of Women 🌸
Through workshops, discussions, creative activities, and social interaction, the student of Gimnazija Mostar and UWC Mostar explored the position of women in society, discussed women's rights, gender equality, and the importance of women's voices, with a particular focus on women whose work and achievements have often gone unrecognized.
A special part of the project was a creative workshop where students had the opportunity to learn more about the project's theme and discover successful and influential women from Mostar. Through various activities, they discussed gender equality and the importance of recognizing and appreciating women's contributions to the community.
Students also shared messages and pieces of advice they had received from important women in their lives, highlighting the profound impact women have on us – as mothers, teachers, friends, mentors, and role models.
The project concluded with a charity sale of handmade crafts and sweet treats prepared by the students together with their peers, giving their creativity a meaningful humanitarian and socially beneficial purpose.

🌍 UWC Mostar at the Balkan Impact Summit 2026

From 7–10 October, UWC Mostar’s Director of Advancement and Outreach, Haris Idriz, joined the Balkan Impact Summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE, organized by the UAE Office of Development Affairs.
The summit brought together leaders and experts to explore opportunities for collaboration, investment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development across the Western Balkans and the UAE.

Haris presented UWC Mostar’s impact on local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting our commitment to education, sustainability, and social change, including our 2020 Zayed Sustainability Prize win. He also reconnected with UWC Mostar alumni, celebrating the global reach and impact of our community.

Building partnerships, exchanging ideas, and creating opportunities for a more sustainable future.

❤️❤️❤️ Project week "Through Their Eyes: Minores Mostar"

This project led our students to Rodoč—and this was not their first time!

Last year, they began creating a beautiful mural on the wall of the Centre and this year, they returned to finish it: an outstretched hand, step by step, reaching toward the sun.

And we didn’t stop at the mural!
Students also spruced up part of the park surrounding the Centre and painted the language classroom on the first floor, where children will soon be learning.

Young people from all over the world have left their mark on the wall of a former military barracks.
They arrived as guests, but left as good friends. Thank you Minores ❤️

🎓 We are continuing our university visits series with St. Lawrence University!

A big thank you to Musa Khalidi, Executive Director of International Admissions at St. Lawrence University , for visiting UWC Mostar and meeting with our students.

The visit was an opportunity for students to learn more about the university’s academics, campus life, and great career prospects after graduating.

Visits like these help strengthen our continued cooperation and create opportunities for students to learn more about life after UWC.

🌍 Peacebuilding starts with dialogue, understanding, and learning from one another.
In this story, we share more about UWC Mostar’s mission and our everyday work to create a community where diversity becomes an opportunity for learning, connection, and collaboration.
During Peace Days 2026, activities such as “Around the World in 80 Minutes” offered another opportunity to show how education and culture can foster dialogue and peace.
In the interview, our Director of Advancement and Outreach, Haris Idriz, shares more about UWC Mostar’s mission, the everyday experiences of our students, and the importance of peacebuilding initiatives.

Izgradnja mira kroz kulturu i dijalog: Priča o Koledžu ujedinjenog svijeta i Danima mira u Mostaru

Osnovan 2006. godine kao dio globalne mreže Koledža ujedinjenog svijeta, UWC Mostar već godinama predstavlja jedinstven obrazovni model u kojem mladi iz cijelog svijeta uče da pomirenje nije samo lekcija iz udžbenika, već svakodnevni rad i proces. Svakodnevni angažman koledža došao je do punog izražaja i tokom Dana mira 2026. (od 17. do 19. septembra), kada je UWC Mostar u saradnji sa Mrežom za izgradnju mira i partnerima bio domaćin radionica, “Žive biblioteke” te sajma “Put oko svijeta za 80 minuta” na Španskom trgu. O misiji škole, svakodnevnom životu učenika i značaju mirovnih inicijativa razgovarali smo sa Harisom Idrizom, direktorom za napredak i outreach na UWC Mostar.

This Sunday, the 27th, Kantarevac came alive for one of our great school traditions, the Football Interresidentials! 🔥⚽️

Teams from all five residences and a staff team stepped onto the pitch ready to compete, cheer each other on, and have a great time. The matches brought plenty of energy, excitement, competition, and some seriously loud support from the sidelines. The stands were packed with enthusiastic fans cheering their residences on! 📣

🏆 Congratulations to Mejdan, this year’s Interresidential Football champions!
