Been spotting a lot of moths recently? π¦
Fun fact: most of these aren't your average moths, they're Bogong moths.
If you see a plain brown moth with a dark streak running down each wing DO NOT give them the Flick! They're listed as endangered, and right now they're mid-migration to the Snowy Mountains. Numbers crashed by 99.5% since the 1980s, so this swarm is actually a good sign the species is taking flight again.
What to do instead:
β
Turn indoor lights off, outdoor lights on, this draws them back out automatically
β
Found one stuck inside? Cup it, slide paper underneath, release it outside
But if you spot any other pest, you know who to call π«‘

As the weather warms up, spiders become more active and start looking for food, shelter, and places to lay their eggs. That means you're more likely to spot them around your home, garage, shed, or outdoor entertaining areas.
The good news? A spring pest treatment can help keep spider activity under control before it becomes a bigger problem.
If spiders are making themselves at home around your property, our team is here to help.

π¦ Warmer weather is here, and so are the mozzies.
While mosquito bites are often just an itchy annoyance, some mosquitoes can spread illnesses including Ross River fever and Japanese Encephalitis.
A few simple actions can help make your backyard less attractive to mozzies, so you can enjoy the warmer months with greater peace of mind.
You can reduce mosquito activity around your home by:
β
Emptying buckets, pots and bird baths regularly
β
Clearing blocked gutters and drains
β
Removing standing water from outdoor areas
β
Keeping lawns, gardens and vegetation tidy
β
Repairing damaged flyscreens
β
Wearing mosquito repellent when outdoors
Stay one step ahead of mozzies. Contact Flick Pest Control on 13 14 40 or learn more about mosquito control.

Rodents love this time of year almost as much as students love the break. As it warms up, they get a lot more active, and a campus that's empty for a couple of days is exactly the kind of undisturbed spot they're after, ceiling cavities, storerooms, anywhere quiet. π
Worth getting it checked before term picks back up, rather than finding out the hard way once everyone's back π€·πΌββοΈ

Thank you to everyone who visited the Flick stand at the 2026 Henty Machinery Field Days.
It was fantastic meeting farmers, business owners and community members from across the region.
We appreciate the opportunity to discuss pest management challenges and demonstrate how SMART technology is helping businesses take a proactive approach to pest control.
We look forward to continuing those conversations.

The most sustainable pest management decision you can make is stopping pests from entering in the first place.
Proofing assessments identify and address the structural vulnerabilities that allow pest entry. Sealed gaps, fitted door seals, cleared vegetation lines. The result is fewer infestations, fewer treatments, and fewer chemical applications across the life of a programme.
Prevention is not just more effective than reaction. It is more responsible.

It's been a huge few days at the Henty Machinery Field Days, and one of the biggest talking points at the Flick stand has been our edible insects!
We've seen some brave visitors take on the challenge and sample roasted crickets and mealworms, with plenty of laughs along the way.
If you're heading to Henty today, make sure you stop by and see us before the gates close.

Did you know cockroach droppings can trigger asthma and allergy symptoms in children? πͺ³
As spring temperatures rise, cockroach numbers climb quickly, and warm, food-heavy spaces like canteens and classrooms are exactly where they tend to build up fastest. Worth a proper check before term picks back up, especially with the break giving them a run of quiet, undisturbed time to settle in.

Term is about to end and pest season is just getting started. π
Warmer spring temperatures trigger breeding season for cockroaches, rats and spiders, which means activity picks up fast. And they don't need a big opening, a rat can get through a gap the size of a 20 cent coin, easy to miss on a routine walkthrough. Left alone over the break, that's enough time to properly settle in, right before students are back.

π¦ Bird Flu in the News? Here's What You Need to Know
With bird flu making headlines across Australia, now is a good time to pay attention to bird activity around your property.
Birds can create a range of problems for both homes and businesses. Nesting, roosting and bird droppings can lead to hygiene concerns, property damage, blocked gutters, contaminated surfaces and ongoing maintenance issues.
Early intervention can help prevent a minor bird problem from becoming a costly one.
Flick's local experts can assess your property and recommend practical bird management solutions designed to discourage nesting, reduce mess and help protect your home or business.

Another rooftop, netted and bird-free. π¦
Bird droppings might look like a minor mess, but for commercial properties they mean corrosive damage to roofing, blocked gutters, and a genuine health risk from the bacteria and mites they carry. Add in the reputational hit of birds nesting near an entrance or outdoor dining area, and it's a bigger problem than most businesses expect.
Our Sydney commercial team went out and fitted durable, UV-resistant netting across the site, section by section, to stop birds landing or nesting there for good, without harming them in the process.

Keep your campus safe from pests this spring. π±
As temperatures rise, so does pest activity, and a busy school environment, shared spaces, food areas, storage rooms, is exactly where that activity tends to show up first. Getting ahead of it now, before students are back in full swing, is a lot easier than dealing with it once term is underway.
