💕 WAAC have agreed to help out even more and cover accomodation/ travel costs up to a certain amount to assist anyone living outside of Perth metro and surrounds that wants to attend.

Howdy POWA Friends!

👩‍💻When we were consulting with our social media expert Mrs GTP (mine sounds like Super Nanny) on how we should be advertising our next POWA/WAAC Community Dinner, she suggested that we should do a "why we do this" post.

😂At first we thought it was such a silly idea
🤔But then we at POWA started thinking why DO we do this

👆What we came up with was its because of you....and us and the awesome fact that when we get together for an event like this we have so much fun!
But its also humbling to see that even though the common denominator in the room may be a diagnosis, it's not a definition.

Events like this show us the importance of connection and the impact when rather than things being done FOR community they are done BY community.

Our team provides support to Leavers during day and night events. If you’ve celebrated your Leavers in WA, you’ve probably seen us handing out free condoms! Harm reduction is the name of the game, so if that's something that piques your interest check out the EOI link in our bio for more information on how to help out.

We are very pleased to announce that HepatitisWA and WAAC have come together as thread: community + health, forming a unified organisation with a focus on meeting the diverse needs of our shared communities in one combined approach to healthcare and client support.

Coming together gives us greater scale and capacity to provide care for our shared communities. It means more resources can go into the services people use, our staff can be better supported, and the organisation will be stronger together than we would be apart.

Our new name, thread: community + health, reflects what has always run through both organisations and community. A thread carries history forward, holding different pieces together without making them the same, while many threads can come together to make something meaningful and important.

Names and brands carry history and meaning, and neither organisation took that lightly when considering our options moving forward together as one. For that reason, WAAC, HepatitisWA, M Clinic, The Deen Clinic, and Freedom will continue as trusted service names under the thread: community + health umbrella.

While the name is new, the trust, care, and commitment to our communities continue. What changes is what we can now do together.
