𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗺 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲. Great to see him back in Toowoomba to take up the whistle — he’s now based in Brisbane for university, and it’s awesome to see him returning home to get involved in the game here.

A great reminder of what refereeing can offer, not just on the field but beyond it. Sam shared this about his journey:

What an incredible way to celebrate 10 years of women’s rugby with Downs Rugby at the Women’s Emilee Cherry Cup Final this weekend!

A huge congratulations to Sarah Morris for taking charge as referee in the Grand Final, and a big thank you to Dalby & District Rugby Union Football Club for providing two new referees as assistant referees for the day.

Seeing three female referees officiating such an important game was a fantastic reflection of the growth, strength, and progress of the women’s game over the past decade. 💪🔥

Now is the perfect time for more women and girls to get involved in refereeing and be part of the future of rugby on the Downs. Whether you’re new to the game or have been around rugby for years, we’d love to see more female referees stepping onto the field!

It’s a huge couple of days ahead for teenage rugby in our region. Tonight sees another exciting round of the Teenage Girls Competition, followed by a blockbuster clash tomorrow as Downlands take on TSS.

These matches are not only a great showcase of emerging playing talent, but also a fantastic opportunity for some of our junior referees to step up on the whistle. With guidance and support from our MODs, young referees are building their skills, confidence, and understanding of the game in a really positive environment.

It’s been fantastic to continue our partnership with Referees — a great tradition of connection, learning and support between our associations.

A huge welcome as well to our newest student referee taking on the sideline of a Senior Men’s game — the future is bright! Massive credit to for supporting and encouraging young referees to get involved. 👏

We’ve also welcomed new referees from clubs across the region this weekend, which is brilliant to see. The referee community keeps growing, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

Last week, Sarah and James proudly represented DDRRA at the Queensland Reds vs Western Force half time activation - and what an incredible experience it was!

👏 Both did an outstanding job, representing DDRRA to a very high standard in front of a big crowd at Suncorp Stadium. It was also fantastic to see our new uniforms showcased right in the middle of the action!

🏉 To top it all off, Sarah and James had the amazing opportunity to meet the referee team for the match and enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the TMO box.

We hope you both had an unforgettable experience — we’re incredibly proud of you! 💙
