You’re never too old to start something that matters.
Owen Tilbury was 74 when he started the Great Regional City Challenge.
Since then, it has raised more than $700,000 and helped fund over 55 community projects.
That’s not just fundraising. That’s participation turning into real community impact.
Owen recently joined us at our Commit Local event at Ferment HQ and shared some of the story behind it.
People like Owen are a reminder that communities don’t just happen.
They are built by people who decide to show up, get involved, and do something.
Be inspired. Then participate.
Participate. Connect. Communicate. Contribute.

Behind every hamper is a Tasmanian story.
At a recent BNAA - Business Networking Advantage Australia - Business Networking Advantage Australia networking event, Gillian Southwell from Tasmanian Occasion Hampers spoke about what sits behind every hamper she creates.
It’s not just the finished product.
It’s the local producers, makers and organisations she chooses to support, the relationships built along the way, and the decision to keep more of that value here in Tasmania.
That’s the kind of contribution that can easily go unseen.
When we choose local, recommend local and work with other Tasmanian organisations, the impact spreads much further than a single transaction.
That’s how community works.
Thanks Gillian and Occasion Hampers for continuing to support local and for sharing your story.
Participate. Connect. Communicate. Contribute.

Junior sport doesn’t happen by accident.
Behind every junior team are coaches, volunteers, parents — and local businesses prepared to put something back into the community.
TREE SERVICES is one of those businesses.
Their support of local sport across Northern Tasmania includes backing Bridgenorth Football Club, Cricket Club and Cricket Club.
At Bridgenorth, that contribution helps support things like uniforms, ground upkeep and junior development.
It might look like sponsorship from the outside.
But for a young person, it can mean having a team to play in, a ground to turn up to each week, people around them and another reason to participate.
That’s community contribution.
Thank you Tree Services for continuing to show up for local sport and the young people who participate in it.
Participate: Connect. Communicate. Contribute.

What would Ravenswood look like without Starting Point?
Every community has organisations that quietly become part of the fabric of everyday life.
Starting Point Neighbourhood House is a trusted community hub in Ravenswood, creating connection, support and opportunities for local people.
This is what showing up for your community looks like.
And this is exactly the kind of contribution we believe deserves to be seen.
