Imagine meeting an astronaut at Scitech! ๐ฉโ๐
Yesterday, astronaut and Australian of the Year Katherine Bennell-Pegg inspired the next generation of explorers during a special session with primary school students in the Scitech Planetarium.
Almost one year after joining our Mission: SPACE virtual excursions, it was incredibly special to work with Katherine again for another inspiring experience.
Students learnt about the journey to becoming an astronaut, from survival training and learning languages to conducting science experiments, staying physically fit, and even performing CPR in zero gravity.
โThe first person on Mars is in a classroom today. That could be in an Australian classroom. It could be you!โ ๐งก
Together with Education WA and Auspire, we were proud to help create such an unforgettable experience.

Itโs World Turtle Day ๐ข
Did you know light pollution can confuse baby turtles?
On beaches in WA, flatback turtle hatchlings use moonlight reflecting on the ocean to help guide them safely to sea.
But artificial light from buildings and streets can disorient them, causing them to head inland instead.
The good news? Light pollution is one of the easiest threats to reduce. Shielding lights downwards, dimming them, and using red-tinged lighting can all help.
In our Light Pollution exhibit, you can adjust the light levels yourself and watch what happens. As the lights brighten, the hatchlings become disoriented, but when the lights dim, theyโre able to find their way safely to the water.
