Suspension Clarification
The APBA Board suspended the APBA Drag Racing rules on 8 September 2025 for the following reasons,
• An APBA representative was recently approached by a Waterways manager requesting a copy of the APBA Drag Rules because of a non-affiliated organisation seeking a permit for a Drag Racing event to be conducted in NSW.
• From this request the Board deduced that an application for a non-sanctioned event may be granted if it was deemed that the non-sanctioned entities rules (not sighted) were in line with the APBA rules which were last updated in 2013.
• The Board subsequently suspended the rules that had been previously removed from the rule book to allow time to confirm if the 2013 Drag Racing rules that were still on the APBA website were in line with the latest legal advice received in April 2025 regarding the 105 MPH speed cap for open cockpit vessels.

Note- Unfortunately, this may have impacted the proposed NRAC event scheduled to be run in October however this was not the intention of the Board.

Further Note - The Victorian Drag Boat Club were not the entity who made the approach and are a non-affiliated Drag Boat Racing Club based in Victoria which developed their own rules when they made the decision to separate from the APBA in 2011.
The VDBC have continued to run Drag Boat Racing events independent of the APBA rules and insurance since this time.
