Does anyone else have a fair few pairs of bobbly, unwearable jeans folded up in the bottom of a drawer? I wear my jeans to death and then don’t know what to do with them (as they are not fit for a charity store).

This one-of-a-kind jacket is made from two different pairs of jeans, as well as the rest of a patchwork quilt I’d used to make a jacket from previously.

The sleeves are made from the bottom of a pair of stretchy jeggings, with the zip on the ankle becoming zips on the cuffs (ideal!🤩). Then I used a thicker, less stretchy pair of jeans (the back pockets part) to create the right front panel of the jacket. I also used the zipper from the jeans to make a zip up pocket for the jacket.

I love the idea of wearing an heirloom that would otherwise be in storage. Our grandmothers and great grandmothers were often incredibly skilled at sewing, crocheting, quilting and the like. So much time and effort was put into these beautiful pieces. Many of us cherish our heirlooms and use them for the purpose they were made for, but more often than not they are put away in storage boxes or given to thrift stores.

If you have an heirloom quilt or blanket of some kind that has meaning to you, but that you find yourself storing away instead of using for its purpose, then perhaps you might consider turning it into a coat or an item of clothing that can be worn with love and pride. Then each time you wear it, it’s like having a hug from your loved one who originally made it. And each time you wear it, it allows you to tell others all about your loved one so they can live on even more vibrantly through conversation.

When I cut into quilts like this beauty, I make sure you use as much of it as possible. Even the smallest leftover pieces will become something beautiful.

When you order a Teddy Townsend shirt, you can been as involved as you like in the design of your shirt. If you wish to do so, you can choose the cotton/linen fabric colour, the feature fabric pattern and placement, the thread colour and the button colour.

This is how I mocked up a client’s shirt design, so that they could see some of the different choices of fabric placement. I am happy to offer this to all my customers!
