In time, science will find a way to enable people with a SCI to walk again.

German scientists make paralyzed mice walk again — Reuters German researchers have enabled mice paralyzed after spinal cord injuries to walk again, re-establishing a neural link hitherto considered irreparable in mammals by using a designer protein injected into the brain.

First test drive for Gary towing the extensively modified whipper snipper I’ve made behind the equally impressive mower. I couldn’t be more happy with the final outcome. Now Gary can cut the lawns and trim around the fence posts himself. What a fabulous outcome for a person with a C3/4 SCI and just another achievement many thought was not possible. Huge thanks to Ryan Hewitt who completed the automation.

Whipper Snipper - Upgraded

I’ve made a few further improvements.

A few extra ponies 💪💪💪 have been added and the nylon cutting cords have been replaced with solid blades.

Another upgrade to the bobcat underway. I’ve now fitted RC servo motors to control the hydraulic joystick which drives the bobcat. These servo motors will be controlled via a small wheelchair style joystick which hopefully should enable Gary to operate independently.

I started Regain Independence to share Garys journey and over the past 2 years VR has become a major part of his rehabilitation which has attracted a lot of interest from researchers, hospitals and Occupational Therapists. As such, “VR- Virtual Rehab” was established and additional Oculus headsets purchased so we can continue to help others experience VR. Want to get involved, then drop us an email and don’t forget to like and share.

Regain Independence and Curtin Uni were proud to present at today’s symposium which provided the audience with an overview of the research project undertaken using VR to improve Neuroplasticity.

Interested to learn more, or experience VR as part of your rehabilitation? then feel free to send us an email.

With the warmer weather upon us, it was time for a sun canopy to be added to the ride on mower.
