Sisters Hand in Hand
We support women, to become self sufficient through business and education
ππ½οΈ IT'S OFFICIAL! π½οΈπ
Welcome to THRIVE ON THIRTY β Meals That Matter πβ€οΈ
A community-driven project that brings together culture, education, connection and practical support for families experiencing the pressures of rising living costs.
So, how does it work?
π©βπ³ Step 1: We have 12 incredible collaborators from different cultural backgrounds who have generously volunteered to share a meal from their culture that can feed a family for around $30. Each collaborator will record a cooking tutorial, sharing not only a recipe but also a piece of their culture, traditions and story.
π¦ Step 2: The ingredients needed for each meal will be donated by our community and packed into hampers by our amazing volunteers, complete with recipe cards.
π‘ Step 3: Families will collect their meal hampers from Sisters Hand in Hand and take them home.
π± Step 4: Families can then cook alongside the recorded tutorial, following step-by-step instructions from our collaborators while learning a new recipe and experiencing a different culture.
But Thrive on Thirty is about so much more than food.
It's about a community coming together to support one another.
It's about sharing knowledge instead of keeping it.
It's about celebrating the incredible cultures that make up our community.
It's about practical solutions during challenging economic times.
And it's about ensuring that support is delivered in a way that is engaging, educational and empowering.
π 12 cultures.
π½οΈ 12 meals.
β€οΈ One community.
From the person donating ingredients, to the volunteer packing hampers, to the collaborator sharing their culture, to the family cooking at homeβeveryone becomes part of the solution.
This is multiculturalism in action.
This is community supporting community.
This is THRIVE ON THIRTY β Meals That Matter.

β¨ A Community Effort That Will Continue Feeding Families Long After Eid β¨
Eid al-Adha is a time of sacrifice, generosity and community, and this year we have been absolutely overwhelmed by the incredible support shown to the families we serve.
A heartfelt thank you to the National Zakat Foundation for partnering with Sisters Hand in Hand to help provide Qurban meat to families experiencing hardship. Through this partnership, countless women, children and families have been able to share in the blessings of Eid and receive support during a time when many are struggling with the rising cost of living.
π A special thank you to Brother Sjahrir and his incredible team at Langford Halal Butchers.
While many of us only see the final result, this team spent days and nights preparing, processing and organising the Qurban meat before personally delivering it to our office. Their dedication, hard work and commitment behind the scenes made a tremendous difference, and we are deeply grateful for their efforts.
π To every donor who entrusted your Qurban through National Zakat Foundation, thank you.
Your sacrifice has reached families who genuinely needed support, bringing relief, dignity and comfort during these blessed days.
ππ¦ We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the many, many community members who visited our office throughout our four-day Qurban collection period.
The generosity we witnessed was truly remarkable. Hundreds upon hundreds of kilograms of Qurban meat were donated by individuals and families across our community. Every drop-off, every contribution and every act of kindness played a part in supporting those who needed it most.
The families receiving their Qurban were beyond grateful.
Many expressed how much it meant to them to know that their community had not forgotten them. For some, this was the first time in a long time that they felt a sense of relief when thinking about how they would feed their families.
And the impact doesn't stop here.
Much of the meat has already been distributed to families in need, but a portion has also been carefully stored so that we can continue providing support in the weeks and months ahead. As food insecurity continues to rise and more families seek assistance, this Qurban will continue putting food on tables long after Eid has passed.
π€² To every donor, volunteer, butcher, driver, supporter and person who made dua for this initiative, thank you.
You have helped turn an act of worship into an ongoing source of nourishment, comfort and hope for families throughout our community.
β€οΈ From all of us at Sisters Hand in Hand, and from the many families whose freezers and dinner tables are fuller because of your generosity...
Thank you. We couldn't do this without you.

URGENT SUPPORT NEEDED
Just after midnight, we received a call that no woman or child should ever have to make.
Two sisters and four children were forced to flee for their safety.
The details of their case are deeply disturbing and, for the protection of everyone involved, there are aspects we cannot publicly share. What we can say is that these women and children have endured significant trauma, abuse, and hardship over a prolonged period of time.
Financial abuse was only one part of their story.
These women came to Australia believing they were building a better future for themselves and their children. Instead, they found themselves isolated, controlled, and subjected to circumstances that no person should ever have to endure. The very people who were supposed to protect, provide for, and care for them became the source of their fear.
For years, they experienced severe financial abuse. Despite being forced to work, they were denied access to the money they earned. Their independence was stripped away, their ability to prepare for an escape was taken from them, and every avenue that could have helped them build security was controlled.
Eid should have been a day of joy, family, and celebration.
Instead, it became the day they had to run for their lives.
When they arrived, they had no savings, no access to money, no food, and only half a packet of nappies between them. They left behind everything familiar in order to protect themselves and their children from further harm.
Our team is currently working around the clock to ensure these women and children are safe, supported, and connected to every service available to them. However, there are several urgent and critical expenses that must be addressed immediately to ensure their ongoing safety and wellbeing.
Due to the nature of this case, we are unable to publicly disclose every item these funds will be used for. This is not because we wish to withhold information from our community, but because doing so could compromise the safety, privacy, and future of the women and children involved.
What we can assure you is that every dollar raised will go directly towards urgent and essential needs that are necessary for their protection, stability, and care.
Unfortunately, many of these immediate requirements fall outside what other services, funding streams, and emergency assistance programs are able to provide or approve within the timeframe required. When women and children arrive with nothing, there is often no opportunity to wait days, weeks, or months for assistance. Immediate action is required, and immediate costs follow.
Today, we are asking our community to stand beside these women and children during one of the darkest and most frightening moments of their lives.
Your donation is more than financial support. It is safety. It is dignity. It is protection. It is the opportunity for a mother to look at her children and know they are finally safe.

URGENT SUPPORT NEEDED
Tonight, while many of us are deciding what to have for dinner, there are mothers in our community trying to work out how to make half a packet of pasta stretch for multiple children.
This week alone, over 10 families walked through our doors in tears.
Not because they wanted luxuries.
Not because they were irresponsible.
Not because they were looking for handouts.
Because they genuinely do not know how they are surviving anymore.
We sat with mothers whose bank accounts are sitting in negatives before the week has even begun. Mothers who are skipping meals so their children can eat. Mothers trying to smile in front of their children while internally panicking about how they are going to survive another week.
One mother quietly admitted she is still wearing undergarments with holes in them because she cannot justify spending money on herself when her children need food.
Another mother cried because her children are sleeping cold at night and she cannot afford proper warm blankets.
Another sat in our office completely overwhelmed because after rent, electricity and basic bills, there was nothing left. Not βnot much left.β Nothing.
These are the conversations happening behind closed office doors.
These are the realities people do not see.
This is what poverty actually looks like in Australia.
It is mothers breaking down because their children need winter clothes.
It is women trying to wash and rewash the same few items because they cannot afford replacements.
It is families rationing basic groceries to survive.
It is mothers carrying shame for things that should never bring shame.
And the hardest part?
Many of these women are trying. They are attending appointments, searching for work, raising children, trying to heal, trying to survive trauma, trying to rebuild their lives while carrying burdens most people could not imagine.
But effort does not magically create food.
Strength does not suddenly produce money.
And resilience does not keep children warm at night.
We urgently need:
β’ Warm blankets
β’ Pantry and grocery items
β’ Hygiene products
β’ New underwear and warm clothing
β’ Gift cards
β’ Financial donations for emergency support
Please, if you are in a position to help, help now.
Because no mother should have to choose between feeding her children and replacing her own underwear.
No child should be sleeping cold while we have the ability to help.
And no woman should have to sit in shame because she is struggling to survive.
While we can say we don't know these families personally, we cannot say we were not told about them, we cannot say we didn't know and that's why we didn't help.
Today we bring these families to you, please choose to support them.

β¨β¨ QURBAN 2026 β¨β¨
As Eid al-Adha approaches, we are once again preparing to support families across our community with fresh Qurban meat during one of the most sacred and meaningful times of the year.
For many of the women and families we support through Sisters Hand in Hand and the Home of Amal Refuge, receiving Qurban meat is not just about food. It is about dignity, inclusion, community care and being remembered during a time that can otherwise feel incredibly difficult and isolating.
This year, we will be accepting Qurban meat drop offs at our office in Canning Vale from:
β’ Thursday 28th May
β’ Friday 29th May
β’ Saturday 30th May
β’ Sunday 31st May
Families are welcome to drop off directly to our office during these days and our team will organise distribution to women, children and families experiencing hardship across Perth.
We are also grateful to be collaborating with National Zakat Foundation Australia this year to help make Qurban more accessible for the community. For those who may prefer an alternative option, Qurban can be purchased directly through their website and the meat will then be distributed to us to support vulnerable women, children and families locally. Partnerships like this help ensure more families are reached and supported during Eid al-Adha.
Every year we see the impact this has. Mothers able to cook proper meals for their children. Families who had no idea how they would afford meat during Eid being able to celebrate with dignity. Women in crisis feeling seen, supported and cared for by their community.
If you would like to donate Qurban meat, organise a drop off or have any questions, please reach out to our team.

π¨ THE NEED IS GROWING β AND IT IS GROWING FAST π¨
Today alone, we had over 5 families come through to receive grocery hampers and warm blankets.
This morning, a very generous family donated 6 large warm blankets to support the women and children we work with. By the end of the day, every single one had already been distributed.
That is how quickly these items are needed.
With the cost of living continuing to rise, more and more families are struggling to afford even the basics. Groceries, electricity, rent, fuel, winter clothing and bedding are becoming increasingly difficult to manage, especially for single mothers, refugee families, and women rebuilding after hardship.
We are now urgently reaching out to the community for support with:
β¨ Non-perishable food
β¨ Warm thick blankets
β¨ Doonas and winter bedding
β¨ Basic pantry items
These are some of the most heavily requested items right now, and we still have many families on our waiting lists needing support.
If you are able to donate, no matter how big or small, it genuinely makes a difference and helps us continue supporting families doing it tough this winter.

π¨ PERTH COMMUNITY β WINTER SUPPORT NEEDED π¨
As the weather gets colder, we are seeing more families struggling to stay warm.
We are currently supporting women and children who simply donβt have enough to get through winter comfortably. On top of that, electricity costs continue to rise, and many families are limiting heater use just to keep up with their bills.
We are looking for:
β’ Warm, thick blankets (new or in excellent condition - Blankets pictured are urgently needed)
β’ Doonas / quilts
β’ Any quality bedding that can help keep a family warm
Having proper blankets makes a real difference. It reduces the need for heaters, eases pressure on electricity bills, and helps families get through the colder nights safely.
If youβre able to donate, we would really appreciate the support.
