As advised, the guidelines for the 2027 Showcase Challenge and the Star Wars Special Category have now been posted to our website.

That is one for Beauties, one for Beasts and one for Star Wars.

Hi WASMEx modellers.
We are finalising the information and "rules" for 2027 Showcase Challenge which we plan to upload onto the website within the next week(ish).
In the meantime please see the attached images - they set the "vibe" for what the content will be.
You can build one or the other (Beauty or Beast) or both if you like!

The photographs of the award winners in the 2026 WASMEx Expo competition have now been uploaded to the WASMEx website.

We understand the wait for the “official” photograph can be frustrating and we are considering options on how to improve that (mainly getting an additional photographer), but that comes with an increased cost.

Alternatively entrants can pre-register and provide a good quality image we can use – which we did for several builds.

For those of you who patiently waited for your “official” photograph – thanks – it made the loading of the images a lot easier with the entry data sheet.
For those who did not – that is fine also . We tried to find the best photo we could of your model. Some we did not have.

Evening all!
Following many years of threatening poor weather, WASMEx finally had a very bad weather weekend. As a result, we have decided to move the date of the Expo from August to December 2027 to enjoy a sunnier event.
Additionally, to freshen up the optics we are moving to new buildings at Cannington Showgrounds.
Everyone will be happy to know they are closer to the carpark – a source of annual complaints.
There will be 2 buildings in use
The Agricultural Pavilion will contain the Vendors, Club Exhibits and also the Competition Hall under one roof.
Sunday morning will see the popular swap meet moved to a large undercover building called Market Hall. This hall will allow us to expand the sellers tables to at least 40.

Being in the lead up to Xmas, this will be the ideal time to purchase that special gift for the person who has hundreds of models in their stash from any of the wonderful vendors or the second hand market!
This means you now have basically 15 months to enjoy building models. Especially for the Showcase challenge of Beauty and the Beast, or for the Star Wars special category or for your favourites. Lets break that 400 build barrier, we missed by 4 this year.

On 22nd August 2026, WASMEx held its annual AGM.

Following the welcome, the 2026 Committee reviewed the 2026 Expo wrap up notes, Online and Expo form feedback, public guest feedback and the Treasurer’s report.

Following all discussions, the election for the three Office Bearers were held. The results were as follows:
President – David Jessett
Secretary – Andy Lawson
Treasurer – Kurt Fischer

Going forward - the first committee meeting for the planning of the 2027 Expo will be in late June 2027 – date / location TBA.
The meeting is also open to volunteers who have contacted the committee with an expression of interest in assisting with the preparation and running of the expo.

In particular we are interested in hearing from volunteers who have strong experience in publicity and web page design.

In case some members did not get down to WASMEx 2026 here are some images of around the hall and some of the main winners. A record 396 entries were received in the competition. The weather on Saturday was atrocious and sadly kept some people at home.
A huge thanks to those who did brave it and come down.
Unfortunately the weather messed with our new expansion as planned and so some revisions were required which caused some confusion, but we got there in the end. Some lessons learned.
Sunday was very good though and an enjoyable day was had with the Secondhand market pumping as usual!

Well the weather today has not been kind, but we have had a record number of entries - big thanks to all the modellers who delivered a big show again.
Plus we have had a fire truck and police car on display. Check them out and have a chat.
