I’m taking a hiatus… After another distressing animal bite injury in my job as a veterinarian, I’ve decided to halt Peppergoose activities for a an indefinite period. It’s been difficult to balance work with Peppergoose for a while, but well.…. Camel. Straw. Members of Pepper-Gaggle and my subscribers might hear from me occasionally but I need to focus my time and energy on other things. Not sure how long I’m hanging up my crochet hook exactly, maybe 6-12 months or so. Before I go…

🙏 I sincerely THANK YOU for your support, for your interest in my crochet creations and patterns, for all your likes 💖, sharing and comments. The world of crochet is a wonderful community and it has all meant so much to me! 🤗

I wish you all a safe holiday season ✨with your loved ones, a happy, exciting and prosperous new year # # 😘

I struggled a bit to choose a pic.. this is my Evolving Bella hoodie prototype as a WIP. This pattern along with all my others are available on Ravelry ongoing during my hiatus….. When I am ready, I will Peppergoose again, but bye for now…

🧶Here are the deets for this Bella sample…

Size: this is a size 3, short sleeve version. My pattern offers 13 sizes to choose from, with instructions for both long and short sleeve options

Pattern: Evolving Bella, available from Ravelry and Etsy. It’s a top-down crochet hoodie with a zipper at the front. More info on my blog (link in BIO).

Pattern testing for my Evolving Bella Hoodie has highlighted that folks might need some extra guidance around how to sew in a zip!
🪡 🧵 🧥
I figure y’all won’t mind a little delay in pattern release while I create some extra resources to support the finishing touch of zip insertion...

Yes, you could google it but I am working on a blog with photos and videos to show you how I have sewn my zips into various samples. My patterns are often educational and this is just part of that ethos 😉🤓🧶❤️

I will put a blog link into the pattern so it’s easy for everyone to find it when making their own Evolving Bella! (And it will be a free tutorial on my website to inspire any hookster looking for a way to sew a zip into a crochet garment they are working on…)

💻subscribe to my blog (link in BIO) if you don’t want to miss it!! 🤗

Crochet outfit of yesterday… my Arcadia Dress in a summery white! The spring weather is popping here in Perth and yesterday a friend and I spent a lovely afternoon in Kings Park collecting pics for my upcoming Evolving Bella Hoodie pattern release….

I can’t show you those photos just yet but I can give my Arcadia Dress a twirl instead 😉 … and show off my new do..✂️

I designed this dress with so soft to wear against the skin! The pattern is a few years old and is available on both Ravelry and Etsy 🤗👗

As for the mysterious Bella sample that was the focus of the photo shoot? It’s a size 10 and in a different yarn to my prototype…. Keep an eye on my socials or subscribe to my blog - pattern testing is wrapping up so will share more info soon!

Happy weekend ☀️😊

🧡Love a hoodie and I think I‘ll finish this little crocheted number with a zipper at the front 🤔 … and maybe some extra contrasting finishing touches… you know, because that’s my jam! 😃

I am calling her Evolving Bella (E Bella for short) because like Evolving Aveline, it’s constructed top-down with 13 sizes evolving from 4 different sets of stitch counts at the back neck!!! …it’s a method unique to me and don’t worry, there are options for either short or long sleeves! 😉💪

Pattern testing is underway, keep an eye on socials and subscribers keep tabs on your inbox because I’ll reveal the finished prototype next week! 🥳🤗

Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend and find some down time to play hooky!! 🧶

Yes, that’s a hood! I love a hooded jacket, with the hood down it both gives some structure around the neckline and some extra warmth at the top section of your back 😉

It’s working really well in this Silk Garden blend as it has some mohair in it so it’s super toasty while still being fairly light!

I felt it needed a bit of contrast trim so I took a dive into my stash and came up with the river washed, what do you think?

A little weekend WIP test fit and loving it! For this project I am making a bigger size (5) for myself than I usually would (3) because I plan on wearing it as a pretty casual and comfy positive ease crocheted hug 🤗

Pattern writing is coming along well too. There are 13 sizes and I’ll share more pics soon!

I hope you are having a great weekend and finding some time to do the things that recharge you! 💗

Years ago I bought this yarn on a craft trip to Melbourne with my mum and my sister and it’s a rare treat for me to raid my stash and work on a project just for me! Well, that’s sort of true. This is a project that has some “just for me” qualities, but yes it’s the next pattern I will release!

Being a crochet designer, my creative energies are often turned outwards and for the last few months it has felt delicious to enjoy the creation process in my own little bubble while helping makers with other things (like my Sashiko Happy Coat Re-CAL which is about mid-way).

This is the design prototype and I wanted to make something comfy to wear really casually. It’s another “Evolving” design based on the construction principles of my Evolving Aveline Sweater but I am taking it in quite a different direction…. Here’s a tip - this design name will start with a letter “B” 😉

The “just for me” vibe came from using this Noro Silk Garden and Silk Garden Lite that I purchased on the aforementioned trip. I had heard great things about how the Noro Silk Garden yarn softens over time - folks rave about it - and I bought the yarn thinking it’s colours are joyous and it will be a treat for me one day! That day has come m!! 😃

Using it reminds me of the three of us fussing over gorgeous yarn in the Melbourne shop, you know, like you do…. There wasn’t enough of the Silk Garden or the Lite to make a garment and it was the last stock the shop had so I figured hey, I’ll just alternate them. So making and wearing this creation is a little time capsule of memory shared with my mum and sister which I really love! 🥰💗

Noro Yarns is in no way affiliated with me or this post - I have just been enjoying using yummy yarn from my personal stash to make something I want to wear! I will make some other samples in other yarns in the lead up to pattern release… but you’ll have to wait and see on that!

Here’s some beautiful yarn I have been playing with recently from Jim The 2nd photo is when I met Jim at their stand at the Bendigo Sheep Show last month. He is a dab hand with a crochet hook, the blanket on display in the 2nd photo is his handiwork!😍 …we got to talking about crochet design and voila, swatching yarn! 🤗

Bellevue’s Hand Dyed Hanks come as tonal dyed skeins, absolutely gorgeous. Seriously soft and intense depth of colour!! I cannot get over just how SOFT it is as a 100% merino product. Seriously with a capital S. Would love to make a garment with this yarn - feeling inspired 😉

🤩Mesmerising isn’t it? The white lines of slip stitch embroidery (aka surface crochet) really capture the eye. This pic shows the collar fading out to the back of my Sashiko Happy Coat, the design on which was inspired by Japanese Sashiko needle craft. If you’ve never tried it I encourage you to google to discover its beauty and heritage traced back to the thriftiness of 17th century Japanese peasant women.

I designed the fabric for this coat specifically for this Sashiko inspired stitch pattern. The fabric has regularly spaced holes providing a canvas or “ground” to stitch into to embellish the garment. Surprisingly this only uses the basic crochet stitches of double crochet (UK terms - with a variation of only using the front loop to work it) and slip stitch!

Playing around with different colours and more or less embroidery produces a wide array of options and soon I’ll show a video of 4 different styles of coat! 🌈 🧥💕

I am hosting a Crochet-A-Long in my Facebook group Pepper-Gaggle and swatching (the first step) has just begun but there’s plenty of time to join in!! All the details are on my website (link in bio) - head to the events page! 😉🧶
