Colourblind is out!

This is my latest album, an 80s Synth Wave inspired collection of Christian originals. Some are remixes of released tracks, others are new.

I have spent around 2 years on this project, used a lot tools to bring this album to life (thats not my voice), however its 100% original and 100% human creativity.

Hi All,
Album has been out for a week... I promised some context for the songs.

Amazing God: Nehemiah 1:5 5 Then I said: “LORD, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments"... This song is a direct reaction to our tendency to call everything awesome! No, only He is awesome!

Clouded Eyes: Deuteronomy 4:29 “But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul” ... I wrote the chorus to this 20 years ago in Thailand, as I looked at a temple to a foreign god and thought, "We are all searching...".

You Won’t Turn Away From Me My Friend: Lamentations 3:22-24
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,�for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning;�great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

Come With Your Heart Open: 1 John 7-21 and Luke 2 8-19. This is Christmas song ... about the wonder of the gift that is Jesus.

So, my new album is out. I said I would give some context for the tracks, but let me start with the whole album.

Most songs are written in the structure of hymns, but arranged with a more contemporary feel. One of the key themes that I tried to maintain was a focus on God, not us. So even "I Am Not Too Broken For Your Love" is about His majesty + my failing still resulting in His love.

Lord You Came Down From Above is a rework of the Charles Wesley Hymn, "O Thou Who Camest from Above". We can thank Paul Quicke from Morley Baptist for commissioning this one! The lyrics are just so powerful and I kept a "minimal changes" approach to attempt to retain the power of those lyrics.

An overall aim for the arrangements was to make the hymn style more accessible to our modern ears. I am a songwriter at heart, so melody and sing-ability is important. I am also striving to write songs that can work just as well in different versions, as a solo performance or with a bigger band.

If you have the time, I would be thrilled if you could have 2 listens to the album. There is a lot of layers in it, some of which you may not pick up in the first listen. I always aim to bring rhythm and complexity into my tracks to keep them interesting, so I there is usually a hidden or obscure sound to be heard in the background.

Music aside ... most of all, I hope you can connect with God through these worship songs... They are written to shine a light on Him, not us.

My latest album is about to drop! Each of these songs draws from a specific bible verse. The project started as a collection of songs that were more “hymn-like” in their structure and ended up as 8 originals and a rework of an old hymn.

I am going to release some more details of each song and the specific bible verse that inspired it. I don't normally push my music, but I am wanting to see if i can give these songs to someone who could broadcast them more widely ... I'm a songwriter at heart, so the though of someone taking these and running with them is pretty cool!

For this particular album I have written all the lyrics and music (except the lyrics for the old hymn), played, recorded, mixed and mastered it ... so its a learning journey for me!

I also realised that this is my first full worship album ... all about God and how He impacts our lives.

Welll ... Ended up with 14 releases in 2024 to Spotify / Youtube / Apple / etc...

They are all buildings towards some albums (who listens to albums anymore? 🥲) ... but for now its just fun putting the singles out.

Also, besides the ones with Rob's voice, the rest are an AI based voice. Interestingly that has triggered a creative explosion for me, as my voice is ok, but not great and the work it takes to make it sound half decent is exhausting! As a pure songwriter at heart, it allows me to get things up to a high standard quickly, giving me a chance to showcase the song. I am 100% open to replacing all AI voice with real voice ... just need people to send me the files!

I think there will be more in 2024 and looking forward to 2025!
