National Carers Week is a time to recognise the three million Australians who provide unpaid care for a loved one. Carers are the heart of our communities, showing compassion, patience, and strength every single day.
But caring can also be demanding. Burnout often shows up as constant tiredness, irritability, or losing interest in things that once brought joy. It’s important to notice these early and take steps to look after yourself.
Ways to help prevent burnout include:
• Taking regular breaks, even short ones
• Talking to friends, family, or a support group
• Eating well and getting enough rest
• Doing something you enjoy, just for you

The idea for the Australian Disability Service Awards came from One Community members who wanted a way to recognise and celebrate the great work happening across the industry. In response, the Awards were launched in 2021, bringing people from all over Australia together for one special event.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Awards. More than just a celebration, it’s a chance to connect, share, and strengthen the bonds that unite our sector.

Every NDIS plan tells a story.
But without Support Coordinators, those stories can stall before they even begin.
Support Coordinators are the ones who help participants turn their funding into real supports, stability, and progress. Yet after seven years of frozen rates, many providers can’t keep going, and Support Coordinators are being forced out.
Disability Intermediaries Australia has taken this fight to Parliament with a petition calling for urgent change. To be heard, 10,000 signatures are needed — and time is running out.
📅 Petition closes: 26 September 2025
If you believe Support Coordination matters, now is the time to speak up.

Music and art therapists can now charge $156.16/hour, aligning with counselling rates. This comes after last year’s cut to $68 sparked major concern.
A government review confirmed these therapies are evidence-based and effective when delivered by qualified professionals. The change begins 24 November, bringing certainty for over 14,000 NDIS participants who rely on them.

The Minister for the NDIS, Mark Butler, has announced a new $2 billion program called Thriving Kids.
This program is part of the government’s plan to offer more foundational supports and is aimed at children who are not eligible for the NDIS. Thriving Kids will run across the country with support from state governments. It will be available through schools, community centres, Medicare with new bulk-billed items, and an online hub for families.
The program is set to begin on 1 July 2026. Right now, the government is still working out how it will connect with the NDIS and how it will be delivered.
More details will be shared as they become available, we will keep you updated.
Unsure what this means for you and your family, share your thoughts in the comments.

The NDIS has extended Early Childhood Approach support to include children up to 9 years old, with the change being gradually rolled out over the past two years.
This update provides more children with access to early intervention services, giving them the support they need to thrive during a critical stage of development.
