Your Inner Artist

My little man joined me to work one night at the studio desk, he wanted to paint too. This was the first time he’s really shown interest in paint. The challenge I set was how many types of marks can you make with the brush? That was the only instruction I set, and we filled pages of the different types of marks. Dots, rolling, tapping, change the pressure, add a sound (this is so fun with kids!) We had a great time playing! He was learning, we were connecting n laughing. I have met so many families over the years who just aren’t sure how to help their artist, and honestly this exercise seems simple, until I say to paint based on these marks rather than outlines n fill with colour- which is the more common approach I see…

We were meant to be in town early, but… today was not our day so I pulled into a side street…

i heard a little whisper to look up and there it was, an amazing view mountains full of colour, and the fog was just lifting, I didn’t expect a view, especially one so beautiful..

I carry a sketch book everywhere now, so I took a moment to document it. So often I am tempted to take the easy route and photograph without the sketch in person part… but I always see differently in the moment. It’s a scribble at best to be honest, but, I know capturing the moment of inspiration is important. I see differently in real life vs a photo. It was also my moment to ‘refuel’ before the kids needed me one again.

Takeaway lesson// don’t wait for the perfect moment, just find the time to create. It doesn’t need to be nice, or for anyone else… it’s something that’s for you!

(A longer read) I’ve been quiet on socials, but it’s any thing but quiet in my life at the moment with my little ones. As most know, classes are on pause until… well I’m not really sure!

Happy new year! My goodness it’s been a while since I’ve posted! I forget how busy it gets with a newborn 😅 (who isn’t a newborn anymore 🫣🥰) there’s been lots of family time and being mum, very little art making! But, taking in all those small moments are so precious. Hopefully my sketchbook will get some finished things on the page this year, not just many half scribbles before someone needs me again 😝 what’s on your creative agenda this year?
