ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Yugambeh Language Region and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People of the Gold Coast and we also acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Bundjalung of Byron Bay Arakwal people, the Minjungbal people and the Widjabul people on the lands in which we teach. We recognise their continuing connection and contributions to country and culture. We pay respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that the core dances we teach, perform and share come from African American and Black culture, as does the jazz music we love. We acknowledge that we do so without lived experience of this culture and are deeply grateful to be able to experience this amazing art form. We endeavour to continue educating ourselves about the historical, political and social context from which jazz and lindy hop grew, and in which it exists today. Understanding this helps us to honour the roots of the dance and music.

Well, that was a bit of fun! 💃🕺
Last week we did a little Swing Switcheroo with our friends at Swing Patrol Brisbane / Riverside — Ray & I headed north to teach their crew, while Kahl & Leigh came south to teach at Swing On In Gold Coast!
Thank you Kahl & Leigh — we loved it! ❤️
Even better was seeing our Gold Coast and Brisbane communities getting to know each other and DANCING together. There’ll be plenty of familiar faces when we all hit Byron next month! ⚓️

I LOVE the shenanigans that go on between classes at Swing On In!
All I can say about this one is… LUCKY WE CAN DANCE, because apparently setting up a simple photo opportunity for our Australian Swing Dance Champions, Wakana & David, is beyond us! 😂🏆💃🕺
Stay tuned for our class recap with our fabulous special guest teachers Leigh & Kahl from Swing Patrol Brisbane / Riverside, who joined us last night and taught a super-fun Charleston class. So much energy and plenty of laughs!
🚗 Tonight we’re heading to Mullumbimby, where our very own Australian Champ Wakana is stepping in as guest teacher and sharing some of her secret sauce to add a little extra flavour to your dancing — as promised! ✨
⚓ And speaking of dancing… individual event tickets for the Byron Bay Lindy Exchange are NOW ON SALE!
If you can’t make the whole weekend, jump online and choose the events that work for you. Three days of social dancing, live music, brilliant DJs and good times in beautiful Byron Bay. 🌴🎶
And make sure you check out our latest Swing On In newsletter — or sign up to receive it — because we’ve got more social events coming your way, PLUS our Christmas End-of-Year Party! 🎄🥳
There’s plenty more dancing to come!
