Here it is assembled. One drawer needs a minor repair. That is in clamp now. Pretty cool thing I reckon. I’ll prolly take the wording off the crown mould and replace it with something more appropriate and relatable to me. That is a later job.

The next glimpse. More to come.

A glimpse of what I rescued today. I travelled an hour either way to save these from a sad fate. A few of the planes are tuned and ready for work. Some I will sell to recoup some of the outlay. The cabinet will be altered internally to suit the tools I will be keeping in this piece. I need to replace the wheels before I take it out of the Ute.

Red cedar and jarrah hearts. And some words I was reminded of today when discussing a project with a potential client. Just because I enjoy what I do does not mean I am worth less than you. I am probably worth more.

Stands fitted. Holes drilled in the desired patten. A number 55 drill is used for this. 1.5mm is too large. 1mm too small. 1.3 works well. These can be packed and shipped tomorrow. Do you have a need for award plaques for your sporting club or corporate needs? I do a range of sizes and shapes to suit your requirements. Made in Australia.

Staining and varnishing done. A couple more days to set off the finish and I can drill the 4 holes in each one. Fit the stands and send them on their way. 25 is about the minimum batch size for these fellas. 40 - 50 is preferable. Back to the admin for me.

This is how I do it. It is vital to have a clean rim so the tape will stick. Clean your rim.

A seemingly simple thing can make a big difference. Three pieces of tape create this pouring lip so that the rim of the can remains clean and can reseal properly. Latest plaque batch are getting colour on them. These will sit for 36hours before they are flipped and the front faces done. Last shot is of some scrap and shorts that will be transformed into small hearts to give away. I like making these. There is no direct benefit other than making another individual smile. That is payment enough.

The five prototypes have gone well overall. Time to do a pre production batch and push the envelope of materials respect and economy. Some Southern Silky Oak that I have had for many years. 19mm square dressed. About 60ish wide. The objective is to square this up and get 2x7mm out of each piece. 14mm of sanded and finished stick from 19mm. 5mm of loss. Ambitious I think. We shall see I suppose. A billet of NGR will also be converted into components for this product. Shields are moving along. Altered the stand rebate jig to produce a better result. I can run these in the morning. The finishing process can happen after the rebates are machined.

More plaques for a regular client. I have done a small batch of these before. As this is 25 I have made the jigs required to speed up the process and ensure repeatability. As usual, these will be stained a dark reddish brown.
