Do you ever get triggered?๐ Getting triggered can feel really intense, right? ๐ซIt usually happens because something reminds us of past experiences or emotions we haven't fully processed. As kids, ๐งwe might have developed certain reactions that kept us safe, but as adults, those same responses can sometimes cause more harm than good. When we react with things like anger, fear, or shame, it can be overwhelming ๐คทโโ๏ธand a little confusing. It's like our feelings from the past are popping up when we least expect it! The good news is that recognising those triggers is the first step๐ถโโ๏ธ toward understanding them and finding healthier ways to cope. It's all about growing and learning from our experiences! ๐ชโจ If you ever want to chat๐ฃ๏ธ more about this, Iโm here for you!๐ซถ
I had a client come to me who was in a complete mess. He was a big man and sat in front of me shaking and crying. I moved my chair up to him and asked him to hold out his hand. I then took his hand and looked into his eyes and said, I've got you and you are safe, you are safe. Within seconds he gave a big sigh and came back to calm. This shows you how powerful a few chosen words said with compassion can be.

For years, we've been told that depression is simply the result of a 'chemical imbalance' in the brain.
But recent research and expert opinions suggest that this explanation is overly simplistic.
While neurotransmitters like serotonin do play a role, depression often arises from a complex interplay of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors.
"The idea that there's a single cause of depression is fundamentally flawed," says Dr. Alan Teo, Psychiatrist. "We need to consider the whole person, including their life experiences and stressors."
Consider Jane's story: initially diagnosed with a chemical imbalance, it took years for her to uncover contributing factors such as unresolved trauma and chronic stress. Addressing these factors through therapy and lifestyle changes was crucial to her recovery.
Understanding that depression is multifaceted can empower you to explore various treatment options, from medication to therapy to lifestyle adjustments.
