I’m Sick of the Green Eco Movement and We Are NOT One of Them

There. We said it.

Apparently every business now needs to be green, sustainable, carbon-conscious, ethically sourced and on some sort of inspirational environmental journey.

We’re not.

Outbound Adventure hires out big caravans that get dragged around Australia behind big four-wheel-drives, often burning a decent amount of diesel in the process.

We have air conditioners. Big fridges. Hot showers. TVs. Coffee machines. Lithium batteries. And enough solar on the roofs to make you think we might actually care about our carbon footprint.

We don’t.

The solar is there so the b**r stays cold and lights stay on.

And if there’s a blender involved, it’s probably because someone decided bulk margaritas were an essential part of reconnecting with nature.

All that might be a little bogan but it certainly isn’t bridging the gap between environmental sustainability and creature comfort.

The closest we get to green is usually the lime in the margarita.

Could we slap a leaf on the logo, buy a few carbon credits and tell everyone their three-tonne caravan holiday is helping save the planet?

Probably.

But that would be bu****it.

We do actually care about the places people travel to. Don’t leave rubbish. Don’t destroy campsites. Don’t drive through places you shouldn’t. Leave the bush the way you found it.

That’s called not being an ar****le.

It doesn’t need a sustainability strategy.

So no, Outbound Adventure isn’t an eco-tourism company.

We’re a caravan company.

And if you turn up in a Tesla to collect the van, we’ll absolutely respect the commitment to going green.

Right up until we ask what you’re actually towing it with.

We like big vans, big trips, cold b**r and comfortable camping.

And we’re completely comfortable admitting it.

Sometimes the customer isn’t right.

There, we said it.

Sometimes the batteries are flat. Sometimes the duct tape is temporary. Sometimes a loose cupboard hinge becomes Exhibit A in a holiday that was already going sideways.

And yes — sometimes we get it wrong too.

But camping isn’t a resort holiday on wheels. It takes a little effort, a little patience and occasionally a cable tie.
