3 brain surgeries.

On March 25th, 2024, I had a stroke.

It was not caused by my weight.

But it changed my life forever.

Jess realised something was wrong.
Jess acted.
Jess got me help.

saved my life.

I was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease, a rare condition where arteries in the brain narrow and increase stroke risk.

Over 12 months, I went through three brain surgeries and recovery.

One year later, I weighed 154kg.

And I made a decision.

If I was given a second chance at life, I was going to look like someone who respected it.

On March 23rd, 2025, I started.

Today, February 22nd, I weigh 80kg.

74kg gone.
Nearly 1.5kg per week.
No shortcuts. Just consistency.

This was never about abs.
Not attention.
Not validation.

It was responsibility.

I could not control Moyamoya.
But I could control my health.

So I stopped chasing diets and started understanding biology.

Insulin.
Protein.
Muscle.
Blood sugar.
Sleep.
Steps.
Strength training.
Aerobic fitness.

Food stopped being comfort.
It became fuel.

The weight did not come off because I felt motivated.

It came off because I stopped making excuses.

“I’ll start Monday.”
“It’s Christmas.”
“It’s just one dessert.”
“I’ll fix it later.”

Later never comes.

I showed up every day, especially when I did not feel like it.

I had not run in 10 to 15 years.

Now I have run 480km.

No races.
No medals.
Just gratitude.

Every kilometre is proof I am still here.

Jess supported me through everything.
Meal prep.
Low days.
Mood swings.
Doubt.

But more than that, she recognised I was having a stroke and acted without hesitation.

In November, I get to marry the woman who saved my life.

Jess, you are my fiancée, my best friend and my hero.

What I learned:

You cannot always control what happens to you.
But you can control how you respond.

Moyamoya was not my fault.
But my health now is my responsibility.

Consistency beats motivation.
Small habits compound.

154kg was the wake up call.
80kg is the response.

Second chances deserve second versions.

In the middle of that chaos, love didn’t flinch.

Jess—my now-fiancé—literally saved my life.
She stayed when things got dark.
She held me when I couldn’t hold myself.
And not long after my first surgery, she said yes to forever.
