🧩Could DDP be the missing piece🧩
If you're working with children, young people, adults or families impacted by complex trauma, attachment disruptions, developmental trauma, out-of-home care, foster care, kinship care, adoption, residential care, reunification, disability, or child protection, you may be looking for a model that places relationships at the centre of healing.
If you've been wondering...
💭 Is there another way to understand behaviour?
💭 How do I work more relationally?
💭 How do I bring curiosity, connection and safety into my practice?
DDP may be worth exploring. DDP is much more than a therapy model. It's a way of understanding relationships, behaviour, and healing through the lens of attachment, child development, neurobiology, relational trauma and intersubjectivity.
At its heart is a simple belief:
Children (and adults) heal in relationship.
Rather than asking...
"What's wrong with you?"
DDP invites us to ask...
"What has happened to you?"
"What do you need from this relationship right now?"
DDP weaves together many evidence-informed theories to help us understand the whole person.
These include:
🌿 Attachment
🧠 Neurobiology
💛 Intersubjectivity
🤝 Relational Trauma
👨👩👧 Child Development
💬 Mentalization
👨👩👧Family Systems
✨ The PACE Attitude (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity & Empathy)
Together they help us create relationships that foster:
• Safety
• Connection
• Regulation
• Reflection
• Resilience
Because healing doesn't happen in isolation.
It happens through relationships that are consistently curious, accepting, playful and empathic.
Connection creates the conditions for change.

💥 RELATIONAL REMINDERS 💥
In the busyness of everyday life, it’s easy to forget that at the heart of parenting, caring, teaching, case managing and being with families and children is relationship.
So many moments are filled with doing rather than being, and over time this can quietly erode connection. When this happens, we miss the very relationships right in front of us. We lose opportunities to prime the brain for safety and regulation, and we miss the moments that fill our cups and sustain joy in the roles we hold as parents, carers, educators, and helpers.
This visual is a gentle invitation to return to the simple, relational practices that often get lost in the doing. The practices that support both us and our children to thrive.
💗 Go slow to go fast — stay mindfully connected to the moment and what is truly needed
💗 Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity & Empathy (PACE) lead with relationship
💗 Notice shame when it shows up so we don’t unintentionally fuel it
💗 Name the experience, say what you see to deepen a shared understanding
💗 Connection before correction, co-regulation must come first, especially in hard moments
💗 Check what’s being activated in your values system, respond, don’t react
💗 Nurture and Structure, being with and doing together, with emotional co-regulation as the foundation for action.
Small relational moments, practiced often, create the safety and connection that make everything else possible.

Storytelling is more than words, it’s how we heal and it's a vital element of Dyadic Developmental Practise (DDP).
From the earliest days of humanity, storytelling has been how we pass on knowledge, build identity, and connect with one another. It’s an interactive art combining words, expression, and imagination to bring meaning to experience.
But storytelling isn’t just tradition.
✨ It supports oral language development
✨ Builds emotional literacy
✨ Creates belonging and felt safety
In DDP storytelling becomes something even deeper: a pathway to healing.
For children with early trauma or out-of-home care experiences, parts of their story are often missing or misinterpreted in ways that shape painful internal beliefs.
When we use storytelling in therapy, we’re not just talking.
We’re giving language to what was once unspeakable.
We’re re-narrating experiences in a way that fosters understanding, compassion, and a new internal dialogue.
This is more than memory.
It’s meaning-making and it’s essential.

Wow, what a special day!
Today was day 3 of DDP Level 1 in Hobart and we had the wonderful Georgie Carr and Stephen Sward come talk to the group about their DDP journeys and how they are supporting the growth of the DDP special interest group(SIG) in Tasmania.
We are so fortunate in Australia to have so many passionate clinicians supporting growth of others in the human service sector alongside the work of the Australian Steering Committee!

🌿 World Friendship Day | We Were Never Meant to Do Life Alone 🌿
As humans, we are wired for connection.
Long before we had words, we relied on relationships to help us feel safe, understood, and held. Throughout life, our village continues to matter. The people who sit beside us in the hard moments, celebrate our joys, remind us of our strengths, and gently help us find our way back to ourselves.
Friendship isn't just about having someone to laugh with it is about belonging.
In a world that can sometimes leave us feeling isolated, World Friendship Day is a reminder that healing, resilience, and wellbeing are nurtured in connection. We don't have to have it all together. We don't have to do it all alone.
When we recognise our common humanity, we remember that every person carries a story. Every person experiences moments of struggle, uncertainty, hope, and growth. It is in these shared human experiences that compassion grows, for others and for ourselves.
Today, perhaps you might:
🤍 Reach out to someone you've been thinking about.
🤍 Thank a friend who has walked alongside you.
🤍 Be the safe person someone else needs.
🤍 Remember that accepting support is also an act of courage.
Our villages may look different, but they all have the power to remind us:
We heal in relationship. We grow in connection. We belong through our shared humanity.
Happy World Friendship Day.
