Earworx
Earworx is a dedicated professional earwax removal service. Some people have more of a problem with wax build-up than others. Why see us?
Using dry and effective micro-suction technology under direct observation, wax is gently and safely removed by a qualified nurse. Excessive or impacted cerumen is present in one in 10 children, one in 20 adults, and more than one-third of the geriatric and developmentally delayed populations. Ear wax removal is a delicate process and special training is required to perform this procedure. Earworx is a service that proudly employs only registered nurses who are qualified in the process of Micro Suction and Aural Hygiene. Ear wax removal is our core business - it is what we do best! Symptoms associated with wax impaction can include but are not limited to:
- Hearing loss
- Tinnitus
- Feeling of fullness
- Itching
- Pain
- Discharge
- Odour
- Cough
If you fit the criteria above or have any of the associated symptoms you should consider having your ears looked at to exclude wax impaction.

MYTH: Excessive earwax means your ears are dirty.⠀⠀
FACT: Cerumen is a natural secretion, not a sign of poor hygiene.
The name comes from the Latin cera, meaning wax. It combines natural oils, gland secretions and shed skin cells. Its job is to lubricate the ear canal, trap dust and debris before it travels further in.
How much someone produces has more to do with genetics, canal shape and age than with hygiene. Producing a lot of it is not something to be embarrassed about.

If you remember one ear care tip from me, make it this: STOP sticking things in your ears!
Cotton buds, scoops, ear camera attachments, keys, bobby pins. Sandy has seen the lot. Look at how little room there is in the canal in this footage. If the plan involves pushing an object in and digging around, it is very easy to move wax further in, irritate the canal skin or make things less comfortable than before.
Clean around the outside and leave the canal alone. If an ear feels blocked, wax may be the reason.

A quick note for anyone who assumes a blocked or itchy ear always means wax. It doesn’t.
Skin in the ear canal sheds continuously and normally migrates outward on its own. When that process is interrupted, dead skin can collect and sit against the canal wall, sometimes alongside wax and sometimes on its own. It can produce the same blocked or itchy sensation, which is part of why guessing from the outside rarely works.
An examination under direct vision shows what is actually there before anything is removed.

Not every piece of earwax is removed with microsuction!
Earworx nurses use microsuction, micro forceps and curettage, and no single technique suits every ear. Before anything is removed, the canal is examined to see where the wax is sitting, how much is there and what consistency it has. Sometimes microsuction is the right approach. Other times curettage or micro forceps are better matched to what is in front of the nurse.
That is what the examination is for. Every ear is different and so is every build-up. Sandy is a Registered Nurse with Earworx, trained in aural care.
