Queensland Road Safety Week reminds us that safe choices on our roads protect everyone.

Last financial year, LifeFlight crews responded to more than 800 motor vehicle accidents, one of the most common reasons our helicopters are called out 🚁

It's the little things that mean the most.

After transporting a patient to Ipswich Hospital, our Brisbane-based pilots were greeted with a surprise.

While the medical team was inside, a few local children created these beautiful drawings for them 🚁🎨

Our newest cohort of critical care doctors is officially rescue ready after completing a week of intensive aeromedical training at the LifeFlight Training Academy in Brisbane 💪

The 30 doctors were put through their paces with clinical scenarios, winch training, sea survival and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET), preparing them for the unique challenges of retrieval medicine.

Among the new recruits are doctors from around the world, including Sweden's Dr Stefan Sjödin, who has traded life near the Arctic Circle for Bundaberg, and Dr Neeban Balayasoderan, whose dream of joining LifeFlight began after witnessing an aeromedical helicopter respond to a crash when he was a child.

We're proud to welcome these talented doctors to the team and look forward to the difference they'll make for Queensland communities 💙

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Roy Thompson AC, a founder and devoted supporter of our aeromedical service in Queensland, and his beloved wife, Nola. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Roy and Nola’s family, friends and all who loved them.

Roy’s contribution to LifeFlight was profound. From the earliest days of the Sunshine Coast Helicopter Rescue Service, he helped turn a bold community idea into a lifesaving service that has gone on to help more than 100,000 people.

Together, Roy and Nola gave generously to the Sunshine Coast community, and their names will always have a very special place in LifeFlight’s story.

They understood the difference a rescue helicopter could make to a family on the worst day of their lives. That belief helped build LifeFlight, and continues to guide us.

We're enormously grateful for Roy and Nola’s friendship, generosity and faith in this service. Their legacy will live on every time our crews lift off to help someone in need.

🚁 It was a busy weekend for LifeFlight crews across Queensland, helping three patients injured in separate incidents across the state's regional communities.

Our Sunshine Coast crew was tasked to a trail bike crash north-east of Dalby, our Toowoomba crew responded to a quad bike rollover near Chinchilla, and our Brisbane crew attended a horse-riding incident in the Somerset region.

Working alongside local Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics, our teams provided critical care before airlifting each patient to hospital for further treatment.

A huge thank you to our crews and emergency services colleagues who are ready to respond whenever they're needed. 💛

Training like this ensures our crew are always ready when they're needed most because every mission demands precision, teamwork and confidence.

A routine workday in outback Queensland nearly cost Billy Reeves his life.

The Brisbane father-of-two was driving a water truck near Roma when it veered off the road and rolled, leaving him with a catastrophic traumatic brain injury.

Back home, his partner Dannielle was making dinner for their daughters when she received the phone call nobody ever wants to get. Billy was critically injured.

The Roma SGAS LifeFlight helicopter landed on the remote roadside shortly after the crash. Billy was unconscious, barely breathing, and needed urgent specialist care.

The LifeFlight team brought advanced emergency medicine to the roadside and worked alongside other emergency services already at the scene.

A LifeFlight critical care doctor and flight paramedic performed a complex roadside intubation in 34-degree heat. The pilot then flew Billy to Brisbane where brain surgeons worked to save his life.

Billy spent 150 days in hospital, including more than three months in intensive rehabilitation. He had to relearn how to walk, talk, swallow and eat.

Today, he's back home with his family.

"We had to just hope that he would come back to us," his partner Dannielle said.

"LifeFlight saved Billy. Had they not acted so quickly and efficiently, he wouldn't be here. They brought home a partner, a dad, a son and a brother."

Recently, Billy and his family reunited with the Roma crew who helped to save his life. "Without LifeFlight I would not be here," Billy said.

"I am forever thankful and grateful for every person involved."

This August, during Rural Road Safety Month, Billy's story is a powerful reminder that serious accidents can happen in an instant. When they do, every minute matters.
