“Wandering the streets of Osaka, I found a great space beneath an overpass where the sunlight created a natural focal point. I waited for around half an hour for the right subject to appear, hoping to line them up with the Beatles-esque shadows and silhouettes.”

Zali’s image captures the energy of the Gold Coast Pro as a surfer takes on a powerful wave, with the crowd watching from the shore.

Captured using a Nikon D850 F2.8 400mm with TC1.4.

Zali shared:
Although I now finally have my own camera, I was with my Dad taking photos with him and using his camera at the Gold Coast Pro surf event. Dad has been coaching me in how to take photos that 'have a story', and for me this image does that. The crowd was massive and we had found a high spot to shoot mostly above the crowd. But then when Medina came out they came from everywhere, climbing on anything they could to get a glimpse or take a photo with their phones of him surfing. This image captures the incredible atmosphere and Gabriel's sic surfing for me.
