End-of-year gatherings can be a significant step towards finding a team in a group of individuals. Get out of the office, into a new environment and do something social.
And it's also a good idea to find time to kick off the new year and check back in with your people after the break. Team offsites where you can work together as a group on a different set of challenges to solve a problem together. The investment you make in these get-togethers can make a big difference to what can be achieved as a group.

A few smiling faces at the completion of a recent leadership training course. This was a great bunch who put in 100% throughout the workshop. It was also an ideal way to close out the year, with team leaders having the opportunity to reset values and goals before the break.

The way we connect and engage with our teams is important.
The way we communicate and the way we react in difficult situations. Defined leadership abilities are becoming more important than ever. Why? Because the makeup of our organisations consists increasingly of roles that are more and more diverse in their requirements. Add to that; we seemingly operate in a time of rapid and constant change. To sustain the pressure, there's a skill that's becoming more and more in demand.
Harvard Business Review lists the c-suite skills that matter the most these days as being social skills.
Social skills, defined as, "a high level of self-awareness, the ability to listen and communicate well, a facility for working with different types of people and groups, and what psychologists call “theory of mind”—the capacity to infer how others are thinking and feeling."

Psychological Safety. It matters just as much in the office as it does on the worksite and the production line.
There's a lot of more to yet be uncovered on the value to be achieved in cultivating psychologically safe environments. It's not just about mental health, though incredibly important, but it's also a pathway, in my view, to high-performance teams who love what they do and who they do it for.

Connection.
