Shirley (VK5YL) President of ALARA (Australian Ladies Amateur Radio Association) and Tina Secretary of ALARA , had a chat on Radio Adelaide in Inner View (4:30 pm ACST Wed 29 April 2026).
In this Inner View chat, Shirley and Tina shared with us, experiences... the excitement of making contact with people all over the world and locally through amateur radio/HAM radio, the social aspect and goodwill within the amateur radio community that exists beyond being part of any particular amateur radio club … support provided in belonging to an amateur radio club like ALARA - Australian Ladies Amateur Radio Association, ranging from technical, on air and in person get togethers … have fun choosing callsigns, learning acronyms and initials like YL and OM, that VK is designated for Australia, 5 for South Australia ... how changes to barriers of entry have changed over the years making getting involved with amateur radio more accessible, providing opportunities to stay socially connected with the world, converse, or experiment with the technical aspects of amateur radio … and be able to communicate during times of need when other communication is down.

Adelaide Qwire musical director Jamie Moffatt and Adelaide Qwire Assistant Director Kansas Bird, had a chat on Radio Adelaide in Inner View (4:30 pm ACST Wed 22 April 2026).
In this Inner View chat, Jamie and Kansas shared with us, experiences... the importance of inclusion and acceptance, becoming familiar with terminology, knowing when to use precise terminology, when to use general terminology, and when to forget about terminology and communicate without words (like through music and movement), timing, collaborations, planning concerts to perform at throughout the year including for the Feast Festival … they are actively recruiting Sopranos and other singers during this 30 Jubilee year of the Adelaide Qwire (originally called the S.A Gay and Le***an Choir), a non-denominational choir dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community, q***r community, transgender community, and allies, accepting singers of all abilities to sing contemporary pop, some choral and folk music … rehearsals Tuesdays 7:30 pm at the Church of The Trinity - Uniting Church on Goodwood Road, Clarence Park.

In this Inner View chat, Tom shared with us, experiences... being given access to an instrument in school, how that sparked a lifelong interest in music, … working in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with microwaves, having access to musical instruments in the ADF and how participation in music assisted in the advancement of his ADF career … attending university to complete a music degree at the Elder Conservatorium of Music and Honours in conducting, continuing to be involved with numerous bands around South Australia where learning music and social belonging are fostered, including Enfield Brass who provide access to instruments and tuition at no cost

In this Inner View chat, Jamie shared with us, experiences... being in various ensembles including, State Opera South Australia, The Australian Voices, Festival Statesmen Chorus, Classical Singer Sundays … the pitfalls of performing outside and also the memorable fantastic memories made in those situations … the wonderful experience touring SA and performing in country towns at a time when there was more funding available for the arts … the need for a dedicated recital hall in Adelaide … a passion for supporting local Australian composers, and performing their works (including during Adelaide Eisteddfod competitions), conversations and connections to spark collaborations for more productions to be produced.
