Winding up a great week exhibiting at the RAA Street Smart event!

Street Smart is designed for learner and young drivers from school Years 10 to 12. A whopping 13,500 students from schools all over SA attended this year, to hear stories and learn strategies to navigate the road safely.

The BusSAFE crew were there handing out information and speaking to students and teachers about sharing the road with buses, reminding them to:
🚌 slow down to 25km when a bus is pulled over with its upper lights flashing
🚌 stand back 2m at the bus stop to avoid bus overhang as it turns in
🚌 wear a seatbelt on the bus if one is fitted – in SA it’s the law
🚌 understand bus blind spots when crossing or driving around buses

Congratulations to RAA and their partners Think! Road Safety (SA Infrastructure and Transport), and DonateLife for an impactful and fun event.

We are committed to visiting as many rural and remote schools as we can each term. Bute, a farming town on SA’s Yorke Peninsula is one of our most recent. Robbo had a blast working with Bute Primary’s 33 students, who were brilliantly enthusiastic, especially during role play with Gus the bus!

Enormous thanks to Kylie at Yorke Peninsula Coaches for the bus, and to Bute Primary School for a great day.

BusSAFE were thrilled to announce new partnerships with Irizar Asia Pacific and Volvo Group with a presentation at yesterday, with Bus Industry Confederation - BICBus Industry Confederation - BIC. These collaborations reflect a shared commitment to safer student bus travel.

Volvo Group and Irizar Asia Pacific join our growing network of partners, alongside transportme, whose support was announced earlier this year. Together, we’re working towards the common goal of safer, smarter student journeys.

We’re grateful for the support of these valued partners, whose commitment enables us to continue delivering our award-winning safety education program to schools across Australia.

Irizar has been delivering safe and reliable passenger transport solutions across Australia for more than two decades. Safety is at the heart of every Irizar bus, and Irizar continually invests in research and development to deliver safer, more efficient vehicles: “Irizar Asia Pacific is committed to promoting best practice in school bus safety and supporting initiatives that educate passengers, drivers and the broader community.”

Volvo Bus Australia is part of the global Volvo Group, delivering buses and coaches built around a single guiding principle: safety. For close to a century, safety has been one of Volvo’s core values, guiding how every Volvo bus and coach is designed and built: “Partnering with BusSAFE reflects a shared belief that safer bus travel starts with education, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to looking after the people on board.”

BusSAFE is led by Bus SA in partnership with the Bus Australia Network. Craig Spurr, BusSA Executive Director celebrates this milestone:

“We welcome our new partners and look forward to this next phase of growth of the BusSAFE program. Together with Irizar, transportme, Volvo and the Bus Australia Network, we will support operators across the country to proactively improve school bus safety - for students, drivers and communities.”
