Meanwhile back at the Ranch
Share
Six talented musicians form SA’s premier Western Swing band. Cowboy jazz: entertainment guaranteed! Ashley Turner: is a fiddle teacher and musicologist.
'Meanwhile Back at the Ranch' features:
Ted Keeley: is a skilled singer and front-man, at times channeling Bob Wills. Being a Western Swing aficionado, his self-deprecating banter is informative and fun. The genre is known for silly lyrics, which suit Ted perfectly. Current bands include old time, Scandinavian, and folk. His solos are imaginative and playful, and he has been known to occasionally slip in some Brahms. Belinda Kendall-Smith: has been playing the upright bass since she was 12 and this band is a slight change in style from her main gig - a 30 year career in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. So, she's not afraid to take a solo. Wilson Main: is also known as Guitar George because he knows all those pretty jazz chords. Western Swing is built around a solid guitar ‘chop’ to help drive the rhythm, which he provides with finesse. Craig Lauritsen: on drums provides the heart-beat of the band. Sometimes it’s slow and swingy, but mostly it thumps along. Craig is a sought-after session drummer and manufacturer of high-end cymbals. Stephen Loss: is a multi-instrumentalist, as he says, "a jack of all trades, and master of none." After decades of immersion in bluegrass and acoustic Americana, he now creates some serious twang via a Telecaster guitar.

This week the big question for Meanwhile...Back At The Ranch will be, 'How many performers can we fit into the modest performance area at Gingers Vintage Lounge Bar?' We hope to rise to the challenge. Come and join Meanwhile... Back At The Ranch on Sunday 26th July. Doors open at 3.30. Book through Trybooking.
Meanwhile...Back At The Ranch are playing at Gingers Vintage Lounge Bar very soon. We play Western Swing, but we have also been experimenting with swinging some more contemporary tunes, including a famous, heavy metal classic that we hope to deliver to you as a swing tune at our next performance. Sacrilegious? Maybe. But, if we get it right, it will put a smile on your face when you realise what tune it originally was before we asked the question, "What would this be like if Cab Calloway sang it?" In the meantime... attached to this post is another rock classic that we thought was more interesting as a swing tune. We recorded it live at our last Wheatsheaf gig. If you want to attend our Ginger's show you can book us through TryBooking. Sunday July 26th Doors open at 3.30pm. Hope to see you there.
