For SALA festival in2022 Uly Rothwell showed a collection of her paintings in the Art Window- and sold them all.

“Dates with Fish depicts the melancholy loneliness of meeting new people.

It draws connections to shoals of fish, and how one individual follows another in a somewhat brainless fashion. This can create feelings of isolation, feeling on the outskirts of ‘a shoal’.

Dates with Fish aims to submerge the viewer to be sitting across from the subject and sharing this experience, either as the shoal or individual.”

Throwback to this commission piece! I love experimenting with different ‘canvases’ and found this tree stump which fitted vibe the commissioner’s wanted. Repurposing, recycling and reinventing are big parts of my creative process. Overall this was a great opportunity to try a new style (again🙄) and a great challenge!

What paints/mediums do you use?
I’ve generally stuck to acrylics just for the logistical reasons (cheaper and easier clean up) but got my hands on some oils for SALA and love how they blend 🥰
