The exhibition "Design with a Purpose" as part of the first Klima Biennale Wien is now open until 14 July!
On show are two of our projects:
* Tokens for Climate Care
* Circular Design Rules App
Exhibition information
The design of products plays a decisive role in the role in the functioning of our consumer society. The work of designers can also be a key to an ecologically and socially socially responsible way of life. Design with a Purpose shows examples of how design can take responsibility, even though it is a tool that was developed in the course of destroying the planet.

Part of Design Collection
Using a Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Network (DCGAN) and a dataset consisting of 3145 individual, commonly-used Emoji as input we trained our model for 25 epochs to come up with new ones. Used extensively for the exhibition identity of "Uncanny Values: Artificial Intelligence & You" as part of the VIENNA BIENNALE FOR CHANGE 2019.
Exhibition curated by Marlies Wirth and Paul Feigelfeld.

How recyclable is your product? Find out now!
For the Institute for Design Research Vienna we created a Circular Design Rules (CDR) tool: https://CDR.tools
Answer a few questions about a product and get an impression how recyclable it is. You can use it as a designer or consumer to test your own products or somebody else’s.
The CDR consist of nine indispensable rules in the design of recyclable products. It also describes practical steps to be implemented in the design of circular products. The end scorecard gives an overview of the circularity potential of products on the basis of the CDR.
CDR is a research project by IDRV – Institute for Design Research Vienna in the framework of the New European Bauhaus Initiative. The rules have been selected from a comprehensive collection of design patterns, which could effectively introduce a positive system change.
With a focus on mobile devices the CDR tool works on desktop, too.

These design visionaries from Vienna excel in branding, installations, print, and even highly specialized software. Their potfolio may include names like Prodigy, however, they haven't been to PDP yet, and that 'Mistake' is about to change. They are our first lecturers for this year: .studio! 📣
👉 Stay tuned for more about Studio Process and their upcoming lecture at PDP15, 8-10 December at MSUV!

The book VOIDOPOLIS was released worldwide in August 2023 and we finally found time to scan some spreads.
A first-of-its-kind augmented reality book from MIT Press Leonardo Series at Penguin Random House
By Kat Mustatea
Design, Algorithmic decay by Process .studio
App by DOTDOT Studio
A hybrid digital artistic and literary project in the form of an augmented reality book, the story retells Dante’s Inferno as if it were set in pandemic-ravaged New York City.
Every element of the book is crafted to evoke loss: the stock photographs of NYC with humans wiped away, the lipogrammatic generative text that is missing the letter e. The book’s pages are garbled and can only be deciphered through an accompanying app—but over a period of months, these digital components decay the way memory might, leaving behind foggy imagery and half-remembered bits of language.

No matter if you're a beginner or already advanced—all can join!
More information: https://process.gallery
* 3-day Workshop
* Thursday October 12 – Saturday October 14, 2023
* 10:00-13:00, 14:00-17:00 (lunch break in-between)
* Location: Process Studio, 1150 Vienna
* Language: English (or German, if all participants prefer)
* Drawing materials are included (Paper and Pens)
* Materials required: Personal laptop
* Coffee & tea provided
* Discount for students!
The workshop
Start out with creative coding using an intuitive approach first developed for kids in the 1960s. Learn to create generative drawings using only three basic commands that move a virtual pen, called a turtle, around the canvas.
Revived and brought to modern creative coding platform p5.js, this technique not only allows you to create digital images, but the same code will drive an Axidraw flatbed pen plotter, a drawing machine that uses pens or markers to draw your artwork on paper.
What you will learn
* Learn an intuitive approach to programming
* Start out with creative coding in p5.js and JavaScript
* Create your own generative artworks and print them with
pen on paper
* Get to know the history of early computer art
Cancellation
You can cancel your participation up to 14 days before the workshop for a full refund. The workshop only takes place if a minimum number of 7 participants is reached. In case of cancellation, you'll be notified and will receive a full refund.
