Matthew Crawford, Mechaniker und Philosoph schreibt in "Why we Drive" über Freiheit und Risiko und warum es wichtig ist, dass wir fahren - und zwar selbst: "My motive is...the experience of using a car or a motorcycle as a kind of prosthetic that amplifies our embodies capacities." Die Theorie ist, dass wir von Kindheit an lernen, unseren Radius zu erweitern und dabei Werkzeuge und Hilfsmittel zu verwenden. Die Beherrschung dieser Hilfsmittel, verunden mit den Risiken, die wir dabei eingehen und hoffentlich beherrschen, ist nicht nur, was uns zu Menschen macht, sondern auch eine zivilisatorische Errungenschaft, die sich positiv auf unsere Entwicklung auswirkt. Lassen wir uns das nicht wegnehmen.
