At sixteen, Arik Brauer painted „The Rat King“ in the winter of 1945 - a harrowing early work that captures the brutal reality of N**i persecution through his characteristic love of symbolic detail, painted by a young man condemned by racial persecution.

Persian New Year with love and tears.

Despite the dire situation in Iran, the Austrian-Iranian Medical Association decided to celebrate in Vienna Nowruz, the Persian New Year. There was also a great deal of sorrow and remembrance in the hall, as we remembered the many beautiful young men and women murdered by the regime who dared to stand up for a free life. What an honor it was for me, as someone who is half-Israeli, to spontaneously perform an a ca****la piece. There was only one song that fit the occasion: the famous Hasidic “Hevenu Shalom aleichem” (“We bring peace upon you”) - see video. In the end, that is how it will be. The love and gratitude that the Iranians showered upon me afterward is indescribable. What a privilege we all have to live in a peaceful country!

The woodcarvings of David, my brother-in-law, are more than worthy of being showcased. For years, he has devoted himself tirelessly to this craft, creating magnificent, one-of-a-kind pieces to delight us. All of his works of art are carved from a single piece of wood. My father always said: the greatest sin is not making the most of one’s own talents. He also consistently encouraged David in his work.

At just ten years old, Arik Brauer caricatured a raging Hi**er after his 1938 „balcony speech“ at Vienna’s Heldenplatz.

The hall was packed, but very few people knew the story of the Haggadah. It was a pleasure for us to sing along to my father’s paintings as we recounted how Jewish civilization came into being at Mount Sinai, and how so many Western values - which we take for granted today - originated in that biblical era. In the photos, my daughter Jasmin shines with an angelic voice and powerful rhythm, alongside my longtime Greek virtuoso guitarist Jannis Raptis. On the screen, you can see Moses striding through the parted sea and the tale of Chad Gadya. For this story, I highly recommend the new bestselling children’s book by the wonderful Dara Horn: „One Little Goat: A Passover Catastrophe“. Following the publication of “People Love Dead Jews,” she is currently working on a new non-fiction book:
„The Final Solution to the Jewish Question“. With that in mind, Happy Passover anyway!
