The Lost Guiding Light Collection

This collection honours the Armenian legend of Princess Tamar — a story dating back to the early 10th century.

Akhtamar Island, home to the 10th-century Armenian Holy Cross Cathedral, which served as the seat of the Armenian Apostolic Catholicosate of Aghtamar from 1116 to 1895.

The inspiration behind this collection is the statue of Princess Tamar, which stands today at Lake Sevan in Armenia, serving as a modern interpretation of the emotion and symbolism behind the historic story.

A young man from the mainland would cross dark waters each night, guided only by her light.

One night, the guiding light disappeared. Lost in the darkness and cold currents, he drowned, calling out “Akh, Tamar!” — “Oh, Tamar!”

A guiding light once lost across dark waters.
Now a legacy carried forward through AZAT MARD.

Introducing The Lost Guiding Light Collection — rooted in the historic Armenian legend of Akhtamar Island. A new story shaped by Legend, Legacy and Light.

Launching tomorrow — 19.05
9AM PDT // 9PM AMT

The Lost Guiding Light collection honours the historic story of Princess Tamar and Akhtamar Island.

Princess Tamar lived on Akhtamar Island, where she fell in love with a young man from the mainland. Each night, she would light a lantern to guide him across the dark waters to reach her. Their love remained hidden and bound by distance.

One night, her father discovered the secret. He was furious and extinguished the guiding light. Lost in the darkness and cold currents, the young man drowned, calling out “Akh, Tamar!” (“Oh, Tamar!”) as he vanished beneath the water — giving the island its name.

“When I created AZAT MARD, the goal was never just to make clothing. It was to bring Armenian legacy into the modern world — creating pieces that allow people to wear story, history, and identity.

Anyone can start a brand. But we built a movement with true meaning. AZAT MARD is for those fearless enough to dream bigger.

And none of this would exist without our community — thank you for carrying this vision with us across the world.”
