𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘂𝗰𝘂𝘀 (𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗔) celebrates the landmark decision by 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝘄𝗮 and 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗸𝗼 to explore national IDs for cross-border travel.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:
𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: Shifts focus from a 17-million-person market to the continent's 1.4 billion people.

𝗔𝗳𝗖𝗙𝗧𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀: A massive step toward the African Union’s goal of a unified, prosperous trade bloc.

𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: We urge the private sector to embrace AI and robotics to compete on this new global stage.

The Eastern Caucus (TECa), Zimbabwe's leading liberal economic think-tank, and it's associate, the Zimbabwe Taxpayers Platform (ZITAP), jointly hold hands with Zimbabweans in celebrating the 46th day of independence on April 18th, 2026.

We value the ideals of independence and liberty for all, including business, workers, and citizens. Their rights as enshrined in the Constitution are sacrosanct.

We also emphasise the rights and liberties of businesses to enjoy less taxes and less interference from the state.

We celebrate the ongoing efforts to ease the cost of doing business as well as making Zimbabwe's currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) sound.

As espoused in our Economic Freedom Audit of 2024, we encourage policy makers to focus on policy certainty, policy congruence, and policy clarity to reduce the risks and uncertainties to make Zimbabwe competitive.

Zimbabwe's recent issuance of ZiG notes is more than just a currency update—it’s a test of economic freedom. While the "𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆" (using candy for change) is fading, the 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀.

Last Friday, The Eastern Caucus (TECa) was on the ground at the ZNCC Zimbabwe–India Business Forum in Harare. R, we joined captains of industry and a high-level Indian delegation to move beyond talk and get straight into "Deal Flow."

The Eastern Caucus(TECa) was proud to be represented by George N. 𝗡𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶 at the recent Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (official) (𝗭𝗡𝗖𝗖) 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. The session provided a vital platform to unpack Statutory Instrument (SI) 215 of 2025, a policy poised to redefine the landscape for local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:

• 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿: SMEs are the backbone of our economy, contributing over 70% of national GDP and 60% of total employment. SI 215 aims to ensure local entrepreneurs are central players in Zimbabwe’s growth.

• 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝘃𝘀. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: While the intent of the policy is widely supported, captains of industry emphasized that success lies in clear, predictable, and fair ex*****on.

• 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: The private sector is seeking precise guidance on sector boundaries and transition arrangements to protect legitimate investments while fostering local capacity.

• 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀: Discussions highlighted the need for a "one government approach," ensuring that financial systems and infrastructure—such as affordable credit—align to support newly empowered local businesses.

At 𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗮, we remain committed to ensuring that the voices of our members are heard in these critical national dialogues. We advocate for an empowerment framework that is sustainable, inclusive, and built to last for future generations.

This Day, we celebrate the theme: "Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage." 🇿🇼

In Zimbabwe, our heritage is tied to the water berry (mukute) trees and the sponges that feed our great rivers like the Manyame and Save. Traditional wisdom taught us never to build on these "Nature’s Kidneys" because they purify our water and protect us from floods.

Today, wetlands are disappearing 3x faster than forests. We must look back to our roots to protect our future. 🌍💧
Let’s honor our traditional custodians and stop the construction on our wetlands! 🚫🏗️

The Zimbabwe Tax Perception Survey Report 2025

This survey is a vital part of our commitment to strengthening
Zimbabwe's public administration, reflecting the spirit of "We the people of Zimbabwe" in our Constitution's Preamble. Taxation forms the core of the social contract: citizens contribute to public funds, and in return, the state is mandated to manage these resources efficiently, transparently, and with full accountability.

Key Findings at a Glance:

Compliance Challenge: The majority of respondents find tax compliance difficult and believe only "just a few" others are tax compliant.

High Rates: Taxpayers feel the current quantum and rates of taxes are too high and prefer paying fewer and lower taxes.

The Demand: They strongly argue that with increased government transparency and accountability, necessary public services would be sufficiently funded even with lower tax rates.

The Zimbabwe Economic Competitiveness Conference

What an incredible day of high-level dialogue at the "The Zimbabwe Economic Competitiveness Conference ," hosted by The Eastern Caucasus (TECa) on November 12, 2025!

Our goal was clear: to unite thought leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to forge a clear roadmap for Unleashing Zimbabwe into a Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle-Income Economy by 2030.
