The Eastern Caucus (TECa), Zimbabwe's leading liberal economic think-tank, and it's associate, the Zimbabwe Taxpayers Platform (ZITAP), jointly hold hands with Zimbabweans in celebrating the 46th day of independence on April 18th, 2026.
We value the ideals of independence and liberty for all, including business, workers, and citizens. Their rights as enshrined in the Constitution are sacrosanct.
We also emphasise the rights and liberties of businesses to enjoy less taxes and less interference from the state.
We celebrate the ongoing efforts to ease the cost of doing business as well as making Zimbabwe's currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) sound.
As espoused in our Economic Freedom Audit of 2024, we encourage policy makers to focus on policy certainty, policy congruence, and policy clarity to reduce the risks and uncertainties to make Zimbabwe competitive.
To prosperity!

Zimbabwe's recent issuance of ZiG notes is more than just a currency updateโitโs a test of economic freedom. While the "๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ผ๐บ๐" (using candy for change) is fading, the ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐ต ๐๐ผ ๐๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฑ ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐พ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป ๐ท๐๐๐ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐๐ถ๐ณ๐๐น ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐น๐.

Headline: Building Bridges: TECa Explores New Frontiers at the ZimbabweโIndia Business Forum!๐ฟ๐ผ๐ค๐ฎ๐ณ
Last Friday, The Eastern Caucus (TECa) was on the ground at the ZNCC ZimbabweโIndia Business Forum in Harare. R, we joined captains of industry and a high-level Indian delegation to move beyond talk and get straight into "Deal Flow."
For our members in the Eastern region, the message was clear: Zimbabwe is no longer just a market for finished goodsโwe are a hub for co-production and value addition.
What does this mean for our local businesses?
The A++ Advantage: Our Indian partners are offering an approach based on **Affordability, Adaptability, and Access**โperfectly suited for our growing MSMEs.
Agriculture & Energy: From solar-powered irrigation to 250MW of new energy projects, there is a massive appetite for technical and financial partnerships.
Innovation Transfer: Opportunities in healthcare, ICT, and "cold-chain" storage to help our farmers reduce waste and increase profits.
The takeaway? We arenโt just looking for investors; we are looking for global development partners who want to build industries with us.
As we continue to represent the interests of the Eastern Caucus, we are excited to help our members unlock these new economic corridors. Letโs turn these strategic alignments into shared prosperity!

The Eastern Caucus(TECa) was proud to be represented by George N. ๐ก๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฟ๐ถ at the recent Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (official) (๐ญ๐ก๐๐) ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ณ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด. The session provided a vital platform to unpack Statutory Instrument (SI) 215 of 2025, a policy poised to redefine the landscape for local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
SMEs are the backbone of our economy, contributing over 70% of national GDP and 60% of total employment. SI 215 aims to ensure local entrepreneurs are central players in Zimbabweโs growth.
โข ๐ฃ๐ผ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐. ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐น๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป: While the intent of the policy is widely supported, captains of industry emphasized that success lies in clear, predictable, and fair ex*****on.
โข ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐: The private sector is seeking precise guidance on sector boundaries and transition arrangements to protect legitimate investments while fostering local capacity.
โข ๐ฆ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐๐๐๐ฒ๐บ๐: Discussions highlighted the need for a "one government approach," ensuring that financial systems and infrastructureโsuch as affordable creditโalign to support newly empowered local businesses.
At ๐ง๐๐๐ฎ, we remain committed to ensuring that the voices of our members are heard in these critical national dialogues. We advocate for an empowerment framework that is sustainable, inclusive, and built to last for future generations.
Letโs continue to innovate and build a thriving, locally-driven economy.

Did you know our ancestors treated wetlands as sacred? ๐ฟโจ
This Day, we celebrate the theme: "Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage." ๐ฟ๐ผ
In Zimbabwe, our heritage is tied to the water berry (mukute) trees and the sponges that feed our great rivers like the Manyame and Save. Traditional wisdom taught us never to build on these "Natureโs Kidneys" because they purify our water and protect us from floods.
Today, wetlands are disappearing 3x faster than forests. We must look back to our roots to protect our future. ๐๐ง
Letโs honor our traditional custodians and stop the construction on our wetlands! ๐ซ๐๏ธ

It's here!
The Zimbabwe Tax Perception Survey Report 2025
This survey is a vital part of our commitment to strengthening
Zimbabwe's public administration, reflecting the spirit of "We the people of Zimbabwe" in our Constitution's Preamble. Taxation forms the core of the social contract: citizens contribute to public funds, and in return, the state is mandated to manage these resources efficiently, transparently, and with full accountability.
Key Findings at a Glance:
Compliance Challenge: The majority of respondents find tax compliance difficult and believe only "just a few" others are tax compliant.
High Rates: Taxpayers feel the current quantum and rates of taxes are too high and prefer paying fewer and lower taxes.
The Demand: They strongly argue that with increased government transparency and accountability, necessary public services would be sufficiently funded even with lower tax rates.
Stay tuned as we delve deeper into the implications of these critical perceptions in our the report.

The Zimbabwe Economic Competitiveness Conference
What an incredible day of high-level dialogue at the "The Zimbabwe Economic Competitiveness Conference ," hosted by The Eastern Caucasus (TECa) on November 12, 2025!
Our goal was clear: to unite thought leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to forge a clear roadmap for Unleashing Zimbabwe into a Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle-Income Economy by 2030.
We extend our sincere gratitude to:
Hon. Mangaliso Ndhlovu (M.P.), Minister of Industry and Commerce, for the Official Opening, setting the national direction represented by Mrs Netai Loice Magade, Director- Commerce and Affairs in the Minister of Industry and Commerce.
Sujeev Shakya, Founder & CEO of Beed Management, for sharing invaluable "Stories from the South" (Rwanda, India, Nepal) on economic transformation.
Dr. Elisha Mavodyo (University of Zimbabwe) and Itai Zimunya (TECa Senior Economist) for providing the crucial national context and analysis.
The consensus is clear: achieving a competitive, $86bn economy requires strategic focus on investment mobilization, formalization of the informal sector, and robust risk management.
A special thank you to all the delegates for their active participation in the Plenary Discussion! The insights generated will directly inform policy recommendations.
