A few days after moving into my new rented apartment, I discovered I had company. When I moved in, the apartment was clean. The bed and bedding were new. Nothing seemed out of order. A few mosquitoes and the occasional small beetle or weevil would make an appearance, but nothing nasty. Out here in Mvuma you learn to be on the lookout for cockroaches, but this flat seemed clear.
That first night, I slept perfectly comfortably. The following day, I got up, showered, dressed, and set off to work as usual. Suddenly, around lunchtime, I became aware of itching in the small of my back. It got so bad that I took myself off to the bathroom to investigate and found that a cluster of ugly red raised weals had appeared. The next day, exactly the same thing happened, except this time the weals appeared on my left buttock. Continued with my war for the next 4days.
The problem was that I had no idea what I was dealing with. I searched in vain for fleas in the sofas and wardrobes.Not knowing what to do in these times of desperation i quickly perused through the internet and finally found @ Integrated Pest Control Masvingo on their page. The first step was to carry out a thorough search of the premises. It didn't take them long to find small blood spots (mine, dammit!) and the culprits under the seam at the bottom of the mattress then across the headboard. They then wrapped and sealed the infested mattress in plastic and took it outside. With the mattress out of the way, they sprayed all the bedding, bagged it up, adviced that if my pockets allowed i had to deliver them to a steam laundry. They then set about on a deep clean of the whole flat, spraying anything dubious and paying special attention to curtains, corners, cracks, and edges. I let them do their worst, then took myself to a local lodge for the next two nights to let the air become breathable again.
Its been more than a moth later now..my war is indeed over for the long term. I've had no recurrence of the problem since then. So, if ever you experience pests in your home the pest control masvingo guys can be of your help.
