Rainy season is knocking on our doors...
How could you protect your home from rain damage??
1. Maintain your roof
The primary purpose of a roof is to keep water out. Replace shingles that are in poor condition.
2. Seal cracks in windows and doors
Water can seep into spaces and cause leakage.
3. Maintain your homes exterior finish
Look for signs of damage in siding, wood rot or warping.
4. Ensure proper drainage
If water isn’t properly diverted from the base of your house, your foundation could be at risk.
5. Clean your gutters
If they are full of leaves or not angled properly to funnel water to the downspout, then water will run down the side of your house and collect at the base.
6. Check your downspouts
Downspouts should extend at least 2 to 3 feet from the house...
Get equipped for rainy season.

The outlook on the African Construction industry become undeniably grim in recent years.
Despite the conservative figure in decrease of expansion in the industry, researchers expect the industry to grow. Especially in the Southern African area.
New technologies that are set to revive and re-boost the construction industry this year are…
• Smart helmets and glasses using augmented reality
• Safety vests with built in GPS and sensors
• 3D printing
• Ground- breaking materials such as self-healing concrete
• Driver-less vehicles
• Drones - used for video and picture taking, tracking job progress and inspecting hard to reach places.
All this brings hope to the once slow industry. In our own country we have quite a few companies coming up with innovative ideas as well.

So you’re done with your construction and have begun living in your dream home.
What are the basic guidelines one can follow to ensure safety against burglary and crime…
1. On the very first day, walk around the area of your home and scout its weakness. Survey it with the eyes of a burglar. Do this as a team if possible.
2. Keep shrubs and bushes near entrance, trimmed, so it’s not easier for a thief to hide.
3. Put curtaining or blinds on garage windows. This is where we usually keep our expensive electricals and machinery so let’s not make it visible to the open eye.
4. Install motion sensing lighters around the house, especially at entrances.
5. Secure your vehicles at night in the garage.
6. Make sure all extra keys are locked up in a safe.
7. Consider installing a home security system and integrating it with a rapid response team.

Home-builders!!
For those who may not know, there is a new type of building product which can replace your conventional building brick and make it faster and easier to build your home.
The product is what is called the STUMBELBLOC. It enables many unskilled people to build their own homes using a fast, affordable, cost effective, high quality and long lasting building system.
1. It’s faster, as the blocks interlock and are therefore slotted into place.
2. Its stronger, as the blocs are made of high grade concrete.
3. Cheaper, because with Stumbelbloc you will require only 1 bag of cement every 500 Stumbelblocs!
4. Its easier to use.
5. Accurate.
6. Cooler, as each block has two air filled cavities which are natural thermal insulators
7. Does not require extremely special skills.
