Unlocking Learning Zimbabwe

Therapy putty is a fun, hands on way to help children build important fine motor and hand skills.

Squeezing, stretching, rolling and manipulating the putty strengthens the small muscles in the hands and fingers, helping to develop grip strength, finger dexterity and hand - eye coordination.

It can also support skills needed for everyday tasks such as handwriting, using scissors, doing up buttons and using cutlery.

The repetitive, tactile movements can be calming too, making therapy putty a great tool for supporting focus, self regulation and sensory needs.

It’s back to school and with it can come some big feelings!

✨Tips on supporting your child✨

To manage kids’ back to school anxiety, you can:

- listen to them and validate their feelings
- create calm routines
- prepare together - pack bags the night before, make sure they’ve got everything they need, etc.
- focus on the positives such as friends, favourite subjects, teachers who help them
- read stories together about overcoming and dealing with big feelings
- teach coping skills like deep breathing or using a ‘worry box’ or ‘worry monster’
- communicate with schools

Building familiarity and a sense of control through preparation helps ease the fear of the unknown.
