Fumigation is a method of pest control/ removal where gaseous pesticides or fumigants are used to suffocate or poison the pests. It is effective against all stages of insect development and can be used to help eradicate a variety of pests such as cockroaches, termites, ants and bed bugs across commercial environments such as your home, bars, restaurants and hospitality facilities, particularly when global trade is involved to prevent the transfer of exotic organisms.
Each season brings different insects and rodents so it is important to pay attention to the environment around you so you know when and how to fumigate.

Manage the winter pests
During the chilly winter, there is nothing better than a crackling fire. Cozying up by the winter fire has health benefits. Not only does a fire lower blood pressure but it also promotes social behaviors. Watching, listening and feeling the warmth of a crackling fire reduces your blood pressure and improves your mood. Our senses become absorbed in the experience, allowing our minds to fall into resting mode.
However we need to be cautious about the firewood we bring in the home. Firewood that's been stacked outside your home, and then brought inside, often provides transportation for a wide variety pests, including termites, spiders, and wood beetles.
* Never store firewood against the house or other buildings because wood-boring pests can easily tunnel directly from the wood into the structure. It is recommended that firewood is stored at least 1 metre away from a structure.
* Keep the wood from directly contacting the ground. Maintaining airflow beneath the pile also helps reduce moisture problems which attract insects.
* Do not stock firewood indoors. Insects can emerge to take up residence within the structure, and the firewood pile can also provide attractive harborage for rodents or other wildlife or insect pests.

Good hygiene is also pest control
Hygiene is very important in pest control management. Pests thrive in dirty, damp atmosphere.
Kitchen cleaning tips
To avoid pest infestation, keep places such as your kitchen counters, floors, stove and cupboards clean. Wipe them regularly with a disinfectant cleaner. Also, if there are food particles lying out in the open, they will attract more insects. This pest control tip may not completely eliminate the pest infestation problem, but it surely will reduce the number of pests in your house. Cleaning after pest control is also very important to ensure your house doesn’t get infested soon.
Fruits and vegetables, when overripe, attract flies and other insects. Avoid keeping cut and ripe fruits out of the fridge for long. While some pests like fruit flies are harmless, the overripe, rotting fruits can also attract bigger pests like house flies, ants and cockroaches which are difficult to get rid of.
Bathroom hygiene tips
Keep your bathrooms clean and dry. Using a toilet cleaner, clean the pot every alternate day. Wash the sink at least once a week with a heavy-duty bathroom cleaner. Keep the shower curtain dry and free of moss. Make sure the drain is not clogged with hair and soap particles and is always covered. These small measures will keep the bathroom hygienic and pest free for a longer time.
Rubbish Disposal
Rubbish should be disposed of every single day. An accumulation of garbage can lead to rodent and pest infestation. This gets worse when you find rotten food particles all around the house. This can lead to spread of diseases especially if you have pets and small children in the house.
Maintain your garden
If you have a lawn or a garden, fill in holes or pits where water can accumulate. If you have a pond or a water fountain in the garden, clean it regularly. Also, prune the plants on a regular basis to avoid wild, bushy growths. Maintain your garden, keep it neat and clean to avoid unwanted pests like mosquitoes, rats and ants.
Install window nets
Fix nets on your windows to prevent pests such as house flies, mosquitoes, spiders, stink bugs, cockroaches snakes and rats from coming in. These nets will not only help with ventilation but also prevent pests from entering. Also, if there are any broken window panes or glasses, repair them at the earliest to prevent insects from entering. Check all the doors of the house too and carry out repairs, if necessary, to make your measures more effective.
Declutter your home
Hoarding and clutter can cause a serious pest infestation . Too much of anything is not good for you. Keep all areas clear and clutter free where nothing can nest or hide. Sell or throw away any old item, including clothes, shoes, packaging material, plastic bags, torn luggage, etc. If you are finding it difficult to decide whether to throw something or not, ask yourself this: Will I use this item in the next three months? If the answer is no, then it’s time to throw it out or give it away.

Tick bites can cause diseases
Lyme diseases is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system.
You can prevent Lyme disease by using insect repellent, removing ticks promptly, applying pesticides, and reducing tick habitat.
