Grow drought tolerant crops traditional grains like Sorghum, pearlmillet , cowpeas
Plant with the first good rains don't wait . Early planting crop escapes the worst dry spell
Conserve water -mulch , basins , tied ridges
Reduce area increase care
Elnino will test us but prepared farmers still harvest .
Livestock
During Elnino Livestock die not because there is no grass today but because farmers act too late
Cut and store hay,and crop stover now
Harvest maize stover , Sorghum stover and legumes and store under shade . Treat with urea or molasses to increase feed value
Plant fodder like lurcerne , velvet bean , lablab , juncao
Make sure they have adequate water supply.
