Olof Palme Internationale Engages Solwezi CSOs on Scoping Mission for Zambia Expansion

Solwezi, Zambia – 19 March 2026 – The Digital Pages Initiative joined Caritas, Civil Society for Poverty Reduction, Zambia Land Alliance, and ActionAid Zambia, meeting representatives of Swedish organization Olof Palme Internationella in Solwezi. The engagement was part of a CSO scoping mission aimed at understanding the work of local civil society actors and exploring potential avenues for collaboration.

The discussions focused on common interests, particularly the governance of critical minerals and the developmental trajectory of the Lobito Corridor. Local CSOs shared insights into their ongoing work, providing Olof Palme with a clearer picture of the regional landscape and the key advocacy priorities currently shaping civil society action in North-Western Province.

Olof Palme Internationella looks to expand its operations into Zambia having operations across the globe, including a number of African nations: Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Olof Palme Internationella pursues its mission through five core thematic areas:

1. Countering the threats to democracy and human rights
2. Advancing equality and worker's rights – building new alliances and pushing progressive politics
3. Sustainability through a just transition – countering climate change
4. Promoting peace and dialogue – mitigating armed conflict and social tensions
5. Opposing the backlash – increasing gender equality

The meeting opened opportunities for future collaboration, with an emphasis on strengthening CSO capacity on various common interests.

Digital Pages Initiative, an alternate member of Zambia's Multi Stakeholder Group (MSG) of Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative is participating at this African Civil Society Peer Learning Event for EITI Implementing Countries at Sandy's Creations, Lusaka. Hosted by Transparency International Zambia, this regional workshop brings together civil society representatives from across Sub-Saharan Africa to strengthen transparency, accountability and civic space in the extractive sector.

Over the next two days, participants will engage on anti-corruption in mining, gender inclusion, domestic resource mobilisation and energy transition transparency under the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) framework. Transparency is only meaningful when it improves lives.

DPI leveraging shared spaces with Caritas Solwezi promoting CSO Training on Understanding the Electoral Process following the enactment of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2025.

‎This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and promote informed public engagement in Zambia’s evolving democratic processes.

Ghana's move to formally acknowledge the UN Framework on International Tax Cooperation in its 2026 budget is a landmark step. This empowers the West African nation to effectively tax multinationals and digital giants, curb illicit financial flows, and recover lost revenues.

This is crucial for securing Ghana’s fair share of global income and boosting domestic resource mobilization without overburdening its own citizens.

This success underscores the vital advocacy of Ghanaian CSOs. Their efforts create a more conducive environment for such progressive fiscal policies.

Digital Pages Initiative has been instrumental in similar capacity-building and advocacy efforts, working alongside CSOs in Zambia to champion equitable tax reforms and strengthen public finance accountability across the region.
