THREE UPND OFFICIALS RESIGN, GO INDEPENDENT

Three UPND party officials from Kalumbila and Solwezi have officially resigned from the ruling party and announced their decision to contest as independent candidates.
Speaking to the media earlier today, the three candidates said they were dissatisfied with the party's adoption process, claiming that they were unfairly left out. They alleged that corruption influenced the selection of adopted candidates within the party.
The trio stated that their concerns over the adoption process prompted them to resign from UPND and seek election as independent candidates.
They further called for transparency and fairness in political party adoption procedures, saying such measures are important in strengthening democracy and promoting unity among party members.

KAWINA CONDEMNS REMOVAL OF BILLBOARDS, CALLS FOR PEACEFUL CAMPAIGNS

Solwezi Central aspiring Member of Parliament Poho Kawina has expressed disappointment over the removal of two of his campaign billboards.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Kawina described the incident as unfortunate and a sign of political intolerance. He said such actions have the potential to escalate into physical violence if not addressed. He urged youths in Solwezi not to engage in political violence or allow themselves to be used as tools to promote conflict.
Meanwhile, UPND Solwezi District Chairperson Bernard Sokotela has called on political parties, voters, and party cadres to embrace issue-based campaigns and reject all forms of violence. Mr. Sokotela said peace is essential for protecting the economy and maintaining investor confidence, adding that violence negatively affects businesses and development.
He appealed to all stakeholders to promote peaceful and democratic participation ahead of the elections.

SUB CHIEF MBONGE CALLS FOR MORE DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT IN SOLWEZI

Sub Chief Mbonge of Kapijimpanga Chiefdom has called on local contractors and companies to emulate the development efforts being undertaken by Kansanshi Mining PLC in Solwezi District. Speaking during the handover of 33 water reticulation systems in the Beacon area, the traditional leader said Kansanshi Mining has continued to play a visible role in community development through various donations and projects.
Sub Chief Mbonge questioned what other companies are doing to contribute to the development of Solwezi District, adding that more support is needed, especially in the water sector. He also challenged the Constituency Development Fund - CDF to prioritise water projects, saying communities continue to face challenges accessing clean and safe water.
The traditional leader further urged aspiring candidates to fulfil the promises they make to the people once elected into office and work towards addressing community needs.

BISHOP SHIMBAMI ENDORSES MOSES KOKELA DURING CHURCH EVENT

The Evangelical Church in Zambia, Lumwana East Congregation, has officially been opened by Mutanda Regional Bishop Patrick Shimbami. Aspiring Kalumbila Council Chairperson Moses Kokela attended the event as special guest and pledged to install ceiling boards for the church. Speaking during the gathering, Bishop Patrick Shimbami reportedly told the congregation that Moses Kokela is the right person for the position, citing the various developmental works he has done within the Evangelical Church in Zambia and across the country.

Kansanshi Mine Hands Over 33 Water Reticulation Systems in Solwezi District

Kansanshi Mining Limited has handed over 33 water reticulation systems to communities across Solwezi District in North-Western Province, providing access to clean and safe water for more than 3,400 households. The beneficiary areas include Beacon, Kisalala, Mapopo, Kapijimpanga, Kinshetela, Kamitonte, Kabulobe, Kyafukuma, Mbonge and Kabwela, while several schools have also been connected to the new water supply network. Speaking during the handover ceremony, Kansanshi Mine Community Relations Specialist Golden Kontakonta said the project was implemented after communities identified inadequate access to clean water as a major challenge. Kansanshi Foundation Manager Simon Keevil noted that the initiative is expected to improve livelihoods and benefit an estimated 17,000 people across the district.

North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Luckson Mulumbi welcomed the project, saying many communities had been forced to walk long distances in search of water and that the initiative complements government efforts to improve access to safe water. Meanwhile, Chief Kapijimpanga’s representative, Sub Chief Mwepu, thanked Kansanshi Mine for the investment, explaining that residents previously relied on shallow wells, locally known as “bolaholes,” which exposed them to waterborne diseases. In a light-hearted moment during the event, Mr. Keevil addressed community members in the Kaonde language, drawing cheers and applause from the gathered crowd.

UPPZ Candidate Withdraws from Kyawama Ward Race

Aspiring councilor candidate for Kyawama Ward under the United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) party, Christopher Kapalu, has withdrawn from the race citing financial challenges within the party.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Kapalu explained that some members within the party were not comfortable with his adoption because he previously belonged to the Socialist Party.
He said the situation raised concerns and eventually forced him to step down from the councilor race.
Mr. Kapalu however stated that despite withdrawing, he remains committed to the development of Kyawama Ward and will support the remaining candidate in order to see progress in the area

Matebo Royal Trust Calls for Peaceful Political Campaigns

The Chairperson of the Matebo Royal Trust, Barton Kasusute, has called on political parties to conduct their
campaigns in a peaceful manner ahead of the elections.

Mr. Kasusute said the recent incident involving individuals carrying weapons at a nomination centre is
unacceptable and should not be tolerated by any Zambian.

He stressed that citizens should be free to carry out their political campaigns without fear, intimidation,
or violence.

Mr. Kasusute further appealed to all Zambians to avoid engaging in violent activities and urged political
parties to work closely with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order during the campaign period.

He emphasized that peaceful campaigns are essential in promoting democracy, unity, and national development

North Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited has officially launched its 2025 to 2029 Strategic Plan aimed at improving water and sanitation services across North-Western Province. Speaking during the launch in Solwezi, Managing Director Ms. Mwiche Sekeleti said the company is facing increased pressure due to the growing population in Solwezi District and the province at large, which continues to affect service delivery. Ms. Sekeleti explained that the newly launched strategic plan will guide the utility company in responding effectively to the rising demand for water and sanitation services over the next five years.

And North-Western Province Permanent Secretary Colonel Grandson Katambi, represented by Deputy Permanent Secretary Luckson Mulumbi, described the water utility company as a valued corporate citizen in Solwezi District. Mr. Mulumbi however noted that despite its efforts, the company continues to face challenges in meeting the increasing demand for water and sanitation services across the province. He stressed the importance of continued investment and collaboration to ensure improved access to clean water and sanitation facilities for residents.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation Permanent Secretary Engineer Romas Kamanga highlighted the six key objectives contained in the 2025 to 2029 Strategic Plan. Engineer Kamanga said government is fully aware of the operational challenges the company has experienced over the years and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the utility company in enhancing service delivery. He added that the strategic plan is expected to strengthen operations, improve efficiency, and ensure sustainable access to water and sanitation services in North-Western Province

An aspiring parliamentary candidate for Mufumbwe, Eliot Kamondo, has called on residents of Mufumbwe and Zambians at large to avoid tribal politics and instead focus on developmental issues during campaigns.

Speaking in an interview with North West TV, Mr. Kamondo said political leaders should concentrate on discussing programs that can improve the lives of citizens rather than promoting tribalism.

Mr. Kamondo stated that if elected back into office as Member of Parliament, he will ensure that all unfinished development projects in the district are completed.

He further said he is ready to work together with the new Member of Parliament from the newly created constituency in order to accelerate development in the area.

Mr. Kamondo also expressed concern over the poor state of infrastructure in the district, noting that many bridges in Mufumbwe are damaged and require urgent attention.

He has since appealed for unity and cooperation among residents to support meaningful development in the district
