Must good in communication

Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary Jobbicks Kalumba has said that specialization at Primary school level will start next term. Speaking when he featured on ZNBC TV1 Sunday interview, Dr Kalumba bemoaned the workload on primary school teachers saying it is one of the reasons they find it difficult to deliver effectively. He said specialization will help teachers prepare adequately so that they can teach effectively and conduct remedial work to learners. He said teachers are tired because they spend more time on lesson preparations.

The Permanent Secretary clarified on the fees which were recently reduced. He said Day Secondaries in rural areas will be paying K150 while those in urban areas K200. Boarding school will be charging a maximum K1,000 as boarding fee and K200 user fee, in total K1,200.
He said parents who can't afford to pay money may pay in kind.

On the issue reducing rural-urban migration, Dr Kalumba said his ministry has given PEOs powers to handle transfers so that there is equal distribution of teachers.

Dr Kalumba has since directed all schools to venture into Production Unit such as fish farming and crop production.

Unlike others, the Permanent Secretary did not issue any threats throughout the interview.
