Voting has closed at most polling stations in Mpongwe and counting is underway. The atmosphere has been calm in most polling stations except for Kanyenda secondary school where there was a clash between UPND supporters and independent candidate's supporters.

Some polling stations such as Chitabale Primary School, Kanyuma Private School , Tsetse fly control centre St. Anthony were characterised by low voter turnout.

Most of the polling stations closed at 18:00 except for a few that closed later.

Some residents in kanyenda mpongwe east constituency turned up as early as 04: 00hrs to cast their votes at kanyenda secondary school polling station which has three polling station, polling station one has 668 registered voters station two has 667 registered voters and polling station three has 667 registered voters as well giving us a total number of 2002.

The atmosphere remains calm with voters patiently queuing waiting for their turn to exercise their fundamental right to vote.

Mean while some senior citizens have called on residents of kanyenda to maintain peace and unity through out the election period.
